Toreadors stay unbeaten after sweep over Cardinals

BOONE — The Newton girls tennis team fell 11-0 to Boone at McHose Park on Monday.

The Cardinals were swept in all 11 matches in the non-conference victory. The Toreadors stayed unbeaten and claimed their third 11-0 win this fall.

Newton did not have the services of No. 1 singles player Morgan Frehse. Brooklyn Sterling moved into the top spot and lost her first set 6-4, while Sloan Brodersen fell 6-3 in her first set at No. 2 singles.

Sterling and Brodersen teamed up at No. 1 doubles and dropped their second set 6-4. Kenzly Brant and Haylie Milheiser fell 6-4 in their second set at No. 4 doubles.

Boone (7-0) also has two 10-1 wins this fall and scored nine wins in each of its other two duals.

The Cardinals face Class 1A No. 3 Pella at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday at Caldwell Park in Pella.
