NORWALK — The Newton girls tennis team dropped its conference opener on Thursday, falling to Norwalk, 11-0, on the road.
Morgan Frehse and Brooklyn Sterling both lost in three sets during singles play, and the Cardinals also dropped one three-set match in doubles.
Frehse lost her No. 1 singles match 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 10-8 and Sterling fell 6-3, 2-6, 10-3 at No. 2 singles.

Kaetlin McPartlin lost her match at No. 4 singles in straight sets, but the second set was 7-6 (7-5). Sloan Brodersen lost her second set 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Frehse and McPartlin lost 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2 doubles and Camryn Andrew and Makenzie Clark fell 6-2, 4-6, 10-1 at No. 4 doubles.
The Cardinals (0-1, 0-1 in the conference) face conference rival Indianola at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday in Indianola.
