Newton shooting sports teams finalize season at state meet

The Newton shooting sports teams finished the spring season with great results.

The 28 athletes competed in more than 12 local events including trap, doubles, handicap, sporting clays and skeet.

In those local events, the athletes took home more than 100 medals and awards for both team and individual competitions. 

In June, several members of the team competed at the state competition in Cedar Falls and posted some of their best scores of the year.

With more than 3,000 athletes from around the state competing, the Newton shooting sports teams had several athletes finish in the top 50 in their divisions and some in the top 15.

The athletes posted 14 perfect rounds of 25 and two perfect rounds of 50 and two athletes had perfect rounds of 75 and 125.
