L-S softball scores season split against Keota

Hawks drop SICL games to HLV/TC, North Mahaska, Sigourney and Keota

SULLY — Eight Hawks registered at least one hit and a fast start pushed the Lynnville-Sully softball team to a win over Keota on Wednesday.

The Hawks scored three runs in the first to take the lead for good and then ended their night early with a four-run third, a three-run fourth and a two-run fifth during a 12-4 home win in South Iowa Cedar League play.

The win helped L-S score the season split against Eagles. The Hawks are 22-1 in the series since 2009.

Peyton Sharp led the Hawks with four hits, two doubles, four runs and one steal. She leads the team with a .508 batting average and has a team-best 32 hits, 23 runs and 51 total bases.

Jakeira Hay finished with three hits, one double and five RBIs, Olivia Norrish totaled two hits, two runs, one RBI and two steals and Alaina Roberts posted one hit, two runs and one walk.

Hay leads Lynnville-Sully (8-13, 7-8 in the SICL) with 12 doubles and 19 RBIs, Norrish is batting .451 and Roberts improved her batting average to .431.

Kate Harthoorn tallied one hit and one run, Olivia Beyer chipped in one hit and one steal, Sophia Squires doubled and had one RBI, Ava Brummel contributed one hit and two RBIs and Katelyn Nikkel scored three runs and stole two bases.

Harthoorn (8-13) earned the pitching win after allowing four runs — three earned — on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts in five innings.

HLV/TC 13, Lynnville-Sully 3

TRI-COUNTY — The Hawks lost two separate leads, and HLV/TC rallied for a 13-3 win following back-to-back five-run innings on Monday during SICL action.

The Warriors won the SICL contest after out-hitting Lynnville-Sully 11-5. It was their fourth straight win over the Hawks, who are 26-8 against HLV since 2009.

Squires led L-S with two hits, one double and one steal. Roberts doubled, had two RBIs and stole one base, Hay doubled and tallied one RBI and Harthoorn drew two walks, scored two runs and stole one base. Vos posted one hit and one run. Harthoorn leads the Hawks with 11 walks.

Harthoorn started in the circle and took the loss after allowing 11 runs — four earned — on eight hits and two walks in two innings.

Emma Johnson pitched one inning and gave up two earned runs on three hits, two walks and two hit batters in one inning. L-S was plagued by seven errors.

Ayla Hall led North Mahaska (14-5, 11-3) with three hits, three runs and two RBIs and Raegan Molyneux tallied two hits and six RBIs.

Sophia Squires

Sigourney 5, Lynnville-Sully 3

SULLY — Seven different Hawks had one hit, but Lynnville-Sully couldn’t overcome an early hole during a 5-3 road loss to Sigourney on June 16.

The Hawks led 1-0 in the second, but the Savages scored twice in the second and third frames to rally and then put the victory away with a single run in the fifth in the SICL contest.

L-S closed the gap with two runs in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough.

Sigourney out-hit the Hawks 8-7, and L-S committed four of the game’s seven errors.

The Hawks are 18-6 against Sigourney since 2009, but the Savages (14-6, 14-1) have won five straight in the series.

Brummel doubled, scored one run and walked once, Beyer doubled and was hit by a pitch and Norrish had one hit and two RBIs.

Sharp collected one hit and one run, Harthoorn, Hay and Squires totaled one hit and Brooke Hardeman scored one run.

Harthoorn took the pitching loss after allowing five runs — two earned — on eight hits and four walks with one strikeout in six innings.

Kia Montgomery led Sigourney with two hits and three RBIs. Ella Bruns chipped in two hits and two RBIs and Josephine Moore struck out eight and allowed just three hits in seven innings in the circle.

North Mahaska 14, Lynnville-Sully 6

SULLY — The Warhawks used a 10-run first inning to dispatch Lynnville-Sully, 14-6, on June 19.

North Mahaska out-hit the Hawks 13-8 in the SICL contest. Lynnville-Sully committed four errors in the five-inning game.

Hay had two hits, one double, three RBIs and one walk to lead the Hawks, who are 25-11 against North Mahaska since 2009.

Roberts totaled two hits, two runs and one RBI, Norrish chipped in two hits and one run, Harthoorn registered one hit and one RBI and Brooklyn Vos collected one hit and one run.

Beyer walked once and scored one run, Sharp tallied one RBI, Nikkel scored one run and Hardeman stole two bases.

Harthoorn tossed all five frames and allowed 14 runs — six earned — on 13 hits and one walk.

Regan Grewe led the Warhawks (18-3, 13-2) with three hits, Kaylia Shipman scored three runs and Olivia Ridgeway posted two hits and two runs.

North Mahaska, who committed four errors, has defeated L-S in six straight games.

Keota 9, Lynnville-Sully 1

KEOTA — The Hawks had one more hit (4) than they had errors (3) and Keota used a fast start to down Lynnville-Sully for the first time since at least 2009.

The Eagles (9-6, 8-6) scored four runs in the first and led 8-1 after two during a 9-1 home win in SICL action on June 17.

Sharp had two hits, including a double, Hay doubled and had the team’s lone RBI, Roberts posted one hit and one run and Harthoorn chipped in the other hit. Norrish walked once.

Harthoorn took the loss in the circle after allowing nine runs — four earned — on 10 hits and five walks with one strikeout in 4 2/3 innings.
