MARENGO — The Lynnville-Sully baseball team scored first and last against Iowa Valley on Tuesday night.
But the Class 1A No. 3 Hawks needed a rally on the road, and their three-run seventh inning pushed the visitors to a 4-2 victory during South Iowa Cedar League play.
Lannon Montgomery had three hits and two RBIs to lead the offense, and Gavin Olea moved to 4-0 on the mound.

The Hawks improved to 14-12 against Iowa Valley since 2009, but L-S has won seven straight in the series.
L-S led 1-0 after one inning, but Iowa Valley rallied with a run in the second and took the lead with a run in the fourth. The Hawks, who out-hit the Tigers 8-4, scored three runs in the top of the seventh to win it.
One of Montgomery’s hits was a double. He leads L-S with 30 RBIs, five doubles and 36 total bases.
Jack Bowlin and Gavin Fisk each totaled two hits and Carson Maston had the other hit. Bowlin and Fisk each contributed one RBI and Fisk scored one run.
Bowlin leads the Hawks (17-2, 13-1 in the SICL) with a batting average of .429 and has a team-best 24 hits.
Matthew Mintle walked once and scored one run, Terran Gosselink scored one run and stole one base, JD Richards and Wyatt Mathis each walked once and Ethan Dunsbergen scored one run.

Olea tossed five innings total and earned the win after allowing two runs — one earned — on two hits, five walks and one hit batter with four strikeouts. He pitched the first three innings and the final two frames.
Richards handled the fourth and fifth and surrendered no earned runs on one hit, two walks and one hit batter with two strikeouts.
Richards’ earned run average improved to .49 in 14 1/3 innings, while Olea now sports an ERA of .82 in 17 innings.
Iowa Valley (8-7, 6-6) was led by Mason Hoyt and Zavier Pedersen, who had two hits and two walks, respectively.
Cole Long tossed all seven innings and took the loss after allowing four earned runs on only 76 pitches.
Lynnville-Sully 7, HLV/TC 3
THORNBURG — Competing against the weather in the area and the Warriors on the field, the Hawks used a fast start to down HLV/TC on Monday.
Lynnville-Sully scored three times in the first and never trailed during a 7-3 road victory in SICL play. The Hawks led 5-1 after three and added two runs in the fifth.

It was their eighth straight win over the Warriors, but the margin of victory on Monday was the closest during that stretch. It was only the second game decided by single digits, too.
Richards, Brody Borg and Olea all registered two hits to lead the L-S offense. Montgomery, Bowlin and Maston had the other hits and Dunsbergen scored two runs and stole two bases.
Maston belted his second homer of the season, walked once, was hit by a pitch and collected three RBIs. His two homers rank tied for first on the team, and he leads the Hawks with 16 walks.
Richards added two walks and one RBI to his two hits, Borg doubled and walked once and Olea scored two runs, stole one base and was hit by one pitch.
Montgomery totaled one hit and one run and Gosselink was hit by two pitches and scored one run. He’s been hit by a team-most 10 pitches this season and leads L-S with an on-base percentage of .544.
Bowlin and Fisk each had one hit and one RBI and Mintle contributed one RBI.
Borg (1-0) tossed 2 2/3 innings on the mound and earned his first career varsity pitching win after surrendering one unearned run on two hits and two walks and three strikeouts.

Trace Carlson allowed one earned run on one hit and seven walks with five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
Richards tossed one inning and allowed one earned run on one hit with one walk and three strikeouts.
Keegan Gorsh totaled two hits and one RBI to lead HLV/TC (3-9, 3-9), while Landyn Anrkum had two walks and Tristan Pirki drove in two runs.
Hawks split doubleheader with West Marshall
STATE CENTER — Bowlin tallied five hits in a pair of road games against West Marshall on Saturday, and the Hawks and Trojans split a non-conference doubleheader at Schilling Field.
Lynnville-Sully rallied to an 8-6 win in the opener before dropping the nightcap, 11-10.
A four-run third inning put the Hawks in front and a two-run seventh broke a 6-all tie after six innings. Both teams had seven hits.
Bowlin and Olea contributed two hits each to lead the offense, while Montgomery, Maston and Borg all walked twice.

Gosselink homered, had four RBIs and was hit by a pitch, Richards totaled one hit, one run, one RBI and one walk and Mintle posted one hit, two runs and one RBI. Borg and Mathis scored one run and Fisk walked once.
Maston (6-0) started and finished the game on the mound. He earned the win after allowing five runs — four earned — on three hits, six walks and one hit batter. He fanned 10 in 4 2/3 innings.
Maston’s 75 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings rank second in the state and leads 1A. His ERA is now 1.12.
Carlson tossed the other 2 1/3 innings and gave up one earned run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
Beckham Desotel led West Marshall (14-7) with two hits, DJ Redoubt tallied two RBIs and Noah Desotel walked twice.
L-S rallied from two separate deficits and took the lead with a two-run seventh in the second game, but the host Trojans scored once in the bottom of the seventh to win 11-10.
West Marshall out-hit the Hawks 15-12, and L-S committed two errors.
Maston and Bowlin each had three hits, while Richards, Montgomery, Gosselink, Borg, Fisk and Mintle each collected one hit in the loss.

Richards stole one base, Olea was hit by a pitch and Dunsbergen scored one run.
Bowlin started the game on the mound but took a no decision after allowing nine runs — six earned — on seven hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings. He fanned five.
Conner Deal took the loss after allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one hit batter with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
Beckham Desotel led West Marshall with three hits, one homer, three runs and four RBIs and Noah Desotel tallied three hits and three RBIs and earned the pitching win in relief.
