COLFAX — A fast start powered the Lynnville-Sully softball team to an early finish against Colfax-Mingo on Friday night.
The Hawks plated nine runs in the first inning and downed the Tigerhawks 13-1 in four innings during a South Iowa Cedar League contest.

Lynnville-Sully out-hit the Tigerhawks 11-5 and snapped a four-game skid. Colfax-Mingo is 11-10 against the Hawks since 2016, but L-S has won the past five meetings.
The Hawks won the first meeting this season 12-10 back on May 30.
Jakeira Hay, Olivia Beyer and Emma Johnson all had two hits to lead the Hawks, while Kate Harthoorn, Peyton Sharp, Alaina Roberts, Olivia Norrish and Sophia Squires each totaled one hit.
Hay laced two doubles and produced two RBIs, Beyer scored two runs and stole two bases and Johnson doubled, scored two runs and contributed two RBIs. Hay leads the Hawks with nine doubles.

Harthoorn scored two runs, tallied two RBIs, walked once and stole two bases, Sharp doubled, score one run, had one RBI, walked once and stole one base and Roberts scored two runs, drove in one run, stole one base and was hit by a pitch.
Sharp leads L-S with a .481 batting average, and she has a team-most 19 runs and 42 total bases, while Harthoorn has a team-high 16 steals.
Squires finished with one run, one RBI, one walk and one steal, Norrish had one run, one RBI and two steals, Brooke Hardeman scored two runs, Brooklyn Vos was hit by a pitch and Katelyn Nikkel stole one base.
Squires leads the Hawks with 14 RBIs this summer. Lynnville-Sully swiped 10 bases in the victory.

Harthoorn (7-10) earned the pitching win after allowing one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts in four innings.
Colfax-Mingo (2-11, 1-10) scored its run in the third but couldn’t avoid the four-inning mercy rule.
