It was the team’s only hit of the game though, and they were plagued by two errors.
Derek Wermager was hit by a pitch in the second inning. He stole second but was thrown out trying to score on a foul out down the right field line.
Wermager was ejected on the play as the home plate umpire determined he was “malicious” in his effort to score. The ejection also made him unavailable for Game 2.

Pella 10, Newton 4
PELLA — The Cardinals scored first and led 3-0, but the Class 3A No. 2 Dutch rally for a 10-4 home win during LHC action on Thursday.
Pella and Newton were supposed to play their final game of the season series on Wednesday, but rain pushed it back a day.
The Little Dutch out-hit the Cardinals 13-9, but there were 13 total errors in the contest.
Newton’s eight errors gave Pella just four earned runs and only one of the Cardinals’ four runs was earned thanks to five Dutch errors.
