SIGOURNEY — In a battle of undefeated teams, the Lynnville-Sully baseball team’s comeback attempt fell short on Monday.
The Class 1A No. 3 Hawks trailed 1A No. 2 Sigourney 7-3 after six innings, and the Savages secured the 8-7 walk-off win after plating the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Sigourney out-hit the Hawks 11-8 and Lynnville-Sully committed the game’s only two errors in the South Iowa Cedar League contest.

The win for Sigourney snapped a four-game losing streak in the series. The Savages lost for the first time on Tuesday after a 5-3 defeat against 1A No. 7 North Linn.
Terran Gosselink, Jack Bowlin and Wyatt Mathis all had two hits to lead the Hawks, who fell to 12-1 and 9-1 in the SICL. Gosselink doubled and chipped in one run and one RBI, Bowlin tallied two RBIs and Mathis totaled two runs and one RBI.
Gosselink leads the Hawks with a .484 batting average.
Lannon Montgomery walked three times, Carson Maston had two walks and one run and JD Richards finished with one hit, one run, one RBI and one steal.
Montgomery and Maston are tied for the team lead with 11 walks and Richards has a team-best 13 steals.
Gavin Olea registered one hit, one run and one walk, Brody Borg walked once, Ethan Dunsbergern scored one run and Gavin Fisk stole one base.

Trace Carlson started on the mound but took the no decision after allowing three unearned runs on two hits, one walk and one hit batter. He fanned four in his three innings and kept his season earned run average at 0.00 through 12 1/3 innings.
Maston (5-1) pitched the final 3 2/3 innings and lost for the first time this season. He surrendered five runs — one earned — on five hits, three walks and one hit batter and seven strikeouts.
Brady Clark finished with three hits and three runs and Isaac Bruns added two hits and two RBIs and was hit by two pitches to lead Sigourney, which is now 13-1 and 9-0 in the conference.
Lynnville-Sully 11, English Valleys 1
SULLY — Eight Hawks had at least one hit and a seven-run first inning gave Lynnville-Sully all the runs it needed during an 11-1 win over English Valleys on Friday.
The Class 1A No. 3 Hawks scored all 11 runs in their first two at-bats and out-hit the Bears 11-1 in the SICL matchup.
It was Lynnville-Sully’s 14th straight win over English Valleys, which fell 0-10 in the SICL.

Montgomery finished with three hits, one double, two runs, one RBI and one steals to lead the Hawks, while Borg added two hits, one run, two RBIs and one steal.
Montgomery leads the Hawks with 18 runs, three doubles, 20 RBIs and 24 total bases.
Richards, Maston, Gosselink, Dunsbergen, Bowlin and Matthew Mintle had the other hits.
Gosselink added three RBIs, Dunsbergen chipped in two runs, one walk and two steals, Bowlin collected one run and one RBI, Mintle walked once and had one RBI and Maston scored one run. Richards doubled and scored one run.
Mathis totaled one run, two RBIs and one steal, Fisk scored one run and stole one base and Jordan Dunsbergen scored one run.
Olea (2-0) earned the pitching win after allowing no hits and no runs and striking out seven over three innings. His earned run averaged dropped to .88 in his eight innings.
