C-M softball falls to HLV/TC in extra innings

L-S rallies past Tigerhawks in SICL contest

COLFAX — A slow start plagued the Colfax-Mingo softball team against HLV/TC on Tuesday.

The Tigerhawks trailed 5-0 after three innings, rallied to take a 6-5 lead after five but fell 9-6 in eight innings after the Warriors scored one in the sixth and three in the eighth during the South Iowa Cedar League contest.

Colfax-Mingo is 12-6 against HLV/TC since 2016, but the Warriors have won three in a row in the series.

The Tigerhawks (0-3, 0-3 in the SICL) were limited to just one hit and they committed three errors.

Brooklyn Yanske registered one hit and one RBI to lead the offense. Brianna Freerksen walked twice, scored one run and had two steals, Kinley Johannes walked once, scored one run and stole one base and was hit by one pitch and Isabella Cushatt posted two RBIs and walked once in her varsity debut.

Dakota Allen walked once, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs, Sydney Veasman walked once and scored one run and Ella Snyder, Emma Cook and Katelyn Steenhoek each walked once.

Callie Rathje scored one run and stole one base in her varsity debut. Snyder also made her varsity debut.

Freerksen started in the circle and pitched into the eighth inning. She allowed six runs — five earned — on seven hits, seven walks and one hit batter in 7 1/3 innings. She struck out six.

Yanske took the pitching loss after allowing three runs — two earned — on one hit and one walk in 2/3 of an inning.

Ema Roberts led HLV/TC (2-1, 2-1) with three hits, three RBIs and three steals and Ayla Hall had three hits and four runs.

Lily Randall slugged a homer, had two hits and drove in four runs at the plate. She struck out eight and allowed one hit in 3 2/3 innings.

Montezuma 10, Colfax-Mingo 1

COLFAX — The Tigerhawks scored first, but Montezuma took the lead for good with a nine-run third and downed host Colfax-Mingo 10-1 during SICL play on Thursday.

Colfax-Mingo is 16-3 against Montezuma since 2016, but the Bravettes have won two straight and three of the past five.

The Tigerhawks finished with three hits but statistics were unavailable at press time.

Lily Ferry led Montezuma (2-1, 2-1) with two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Leah Urfer allowed one earned run and struck out 11 in five innings in the circle.

Lynnville-Sully 12, Colfax-Mingo 10

SULLY — Colfax-Mingo led 9-4 after three innings but Lynnville-Sully rallied for a 12-10 road win during SICL play on Friday.

The Tigerhawks scored first and plated six runs in the third, but the Hawks took the lead for good with a seven-run fifth.

Lynnville-Sully cranked out 16 hits and stole seven bases in the win. The Hawks also committed seven errors.

Official statistics for Colfax-Mingo were unavailable at press time, but the Tigerhawks are 11-9 against L-S since 2016. The Hawks have won four straight in the series.

Brooke Hardeman led the Hawks (1-2, 1-2) with three hits, two runs, two RBIs and three steals.
