COLFAX — Jackson Price finished fifth and Peyton Rozendaal was eighth, but Pella Christian took the top three spots individually and cruised to the tournament title at the C-M Boys Golf Invitational on Thursday.
The Cardinals shot 329 in third and host Colfax-Mingo was fifth in the five-team field with a 395. Pella Christian won the meet with a 304, Pleasantville (323) was second and Boone (344) finished fourth.

Pella Christian’s Eliot Menninga was the meet medalist with a 70 and Deacon Branderhorst was the runner-up with a 74.
Price led the Cardinals in fifth with a 78. He shot 38 on the first nine and 40 on the second. Golfers played from the white tees the first time around and then switched to the blues the final rotation.
Rozendaal’s 81 placed him seventh overall and Ethan Pageler carded a career-best 84. Lincoln Peterson (86) was the final scoring golfer and Lane Rozendaal (88) and Kayden Westlund (102) turned in non-counting scores.
Peyton Rozendaal had splits of 37-44 and Pageler went 43-41. Peterson (43-43) and Lane Rozendaal (44-44) had even splits.

Colfax-Mingo was led by Jadyn Patten’s 95. The other counting scorers were Cason Fitch (97), Shane Hostetter (99), Luke Padgett (104) and Jace Lewis (104). Gavin Sydnes was a non-scoring golfer with a career-best 105.
The Eagles’ four scoring golfers finished in the top nine positions and Pleasantville went 4-6-10.
Cardinals shoot 315, finish fifth at Gilbert Invitational
AMES — Newton posted its second-best score of the season during the Gilbert Invitational on Saturday.
The Cardinals got a 76 from Price and a career-best 78 from Lane Rozendaal and the 315 placed them fifth in the nine-team field at the par 71 Ames Golf & Country Club.
“We played really well,” Newton head boys golf coach Pat Riley said. We beat three teams we haven’t even come close to this year. I’m hoping this is the kind of confidence and belief the guys need in themselves right before sectionals."

The tournament allowed for teams to bring eight players, and the Cardinals used the weekend to figure out the back end of their lineup for the postseason next week.
Price has one of the few guaranteed varsity spots as he continues to lead the squad. He posted a 35 on the front nine, but a 41 on the back dropped his score to 76.
Lane Rozendaal matched a career-best as he had splits of 38-40. The other two scoring golfers were Mason Smith (80) and Peyton Rozendaal (81). Carter Forst (82), Peterson (83), Grant Osby (89) and Ethan Pageler (93) had non-counting scores.
Host Gilbert won the tournament with a 295. Ballard shot 299 in second and the the rest of the nine-team field included North Polk (310), Decorah (311), Newton (315), Knoxville (316), Nevada (316), Winterset (326) and Boone (336).

Gilbert’s Ryan Lynch shot a 3-under-par 68 to earn medalist honors. Nevada’s Parker Rodgers carded a 70 as the runner-up. Nine golfers shot 75 or better.
