DES MOINES — Aliviah Ross set her career high for goals in a season, Sophia Coady added to her team-best assist total and the Newton girls soccer team tied Des Moines Hoover, 1-1, on Thursday.
Both teams scored in the first half of the non-conference contest. The Cardinals are 6-1-3 in their last 10 matches.

Ross scored her career-high 13th goal of the season. It was her 31st career varsity goal.
Coady now has a team-best 11 assists, which ranks tied for seventh in Class 2A.
Addy Cibula made six saves and now has 125 this spring, which ranks seventh in 2A. Newton (8-5-3) put eight of its 23 shots on goal.
Des Moines East (3-7-2) has scored one goal or less in eight matches this spring.
