Mustangs take home victory lap

PCM girls double up in eight events to take home meet title

MONROE — Lila Milani was the only individual winner for the Mustangs during the PCM Coed Invitational on Thursday.

But the PCM girls track and field team won three relays, doubled up in eight individual events and posted 15 top-three finishes during its home victory.

The Mustangs did a victory lap at the end of the night after scoring 138 points. Ottumwa (113) edged Des Moines Christian (112) for second and the rest of the seven-team field included North Mahaska (81), Nevada (56), Chariton (47) and the PCM JV (10).

Milani was part of three of the Mustangs’ four wins. She won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 30.46 seconds and Ali Hilsabeck finished third in 2:48.73.

Milani anchored the 4x800 relay team to a win. That group also featured Abi Teeter, Bailey Wheeler and Darbey DeRaad and they posted a winning time of 10:19.14.

Katelynn Fagg, Lexi Fagg, Milani and Jorja Teeter won the 4x400 relay in a season-best time of 4:19.38.

The final win came in the sprint medley relay. That group featured Alyssa Buckingham, Ryan DeVore, Jorja Teeter and Katelynn Fagg and they won the race in a season-best 1:58.48.

PCM’s foursome of Stella Stravers, Addison Shannon, Kyra Naeve and Paiten Rumbaugh finished third in 2:02.78.

The 4x200 relay team finished second and set a season-best time of 1:53.03. That quartet was Peyton Lathrum, Katelynn Fagg, DeVore and Jorja Teeter.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Lillian Humpal, DeVore, Libby Winters and Tori Lindsay also placed third in 1:15.32.

The Mustangs doubled up in the 100, 200, 400, 100 hurdles, 800, 1,500, discus and the long jump.

The event that produced the best result was the long jump as Lexi Fagg was the runner-up with a leap of 15 feet, 5 1/4 inches and Katelynn Fagg placed third in 15-4 3/4.

Lexi Fagg (1:05.34) also was second in the 400 and Baili Birkenholtz (1:12.59) placed fourth.

The 1,500 produced a 3-4-5 finish with Abi Teeter (5:18.64), DeRaad (5:40.19) and Annie Ford (career-best 5:51.48).

Winters was second in the 200 in a career-best time of 30.02 seconds and Buckingham was sixth in 30.49. Lathrum (career-best 14.3) and Shannon (14.78) also were 3-6 in the 100.

Hilsabeck placed third in the 3,000 in a career-best time of 11:52.31, Scarlett Mosher (career-best 95-0) and Ila Keuning (87-4) went 4-6 in the discus and Lindsay (18.02) and Humpal (18.29) finished 5-6 in the 100 hurdles.

Mosher (31-0) placed fourth in the shot put and Winters (4-6) tied a career-best mark in the high jump in fifth.

Teeter’s two wins lead Mustangs to third at Chariton

CHARITON — PCM doubled up in a pair of field events and two distance races but only claimed two wins during the Chariton Lady Chargers Relays on Tuesday.

Abi Teeter won the 1,500 after leading off the Mustangs’ winning 4x800 relay, and PCM scored 120 points in the Class AA Division.

Davis County won the meet championship with 145.5 points. Those Mustangs edged Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (141) by 4.5 points and the rest of the field included PCM (120), Pella Christian (111), Chariton (89) and Knoxville (83.5).

Abi Teeter’s winning time in the 1,500 was clocked in 5:13.51. Hilsabeck finished third in a career-best 5:28.83.

Abi Teeter led off the 4x800 relay and was joined by Wheeler, DeRaad and Milani. They won the race in 10:22.14.

Milani had the team’s only individual runner-up finish. She was second in the 800 in 2:30.9 and DeRaad finished sixth in a career-best 2:42.55.

The Mustangs also were second in the 4x200 and shuttle hurdle relays.

The 4x200 team of Winters, Lexi Fagg, Jorja Teeter and Lathrum placed second in 1:53.45.

DeVore, Winters, Humpal and Lindsay finished second in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:14.54.

PCM placed third five times. Ford was third in the 3,000 with a career-best time of 12:25.18 and Lexi Fagg (14-10) and Katelynn Fagg (14-6) went 3-5 in the long jump.

The Mustangs’ 4x100 relay team of Lindsay, Winters, DeVore and Lathrum placed third in 54.5 seconds and the distance medley relay team of Katelynn Fagg, Naeve, Rumbaugh and Hilsabeck placed third in 4:46.17.

Keuning (88-2) and Mosher (85-3) gave PCM double points in the discus. Keuning was fourth and Mosher finished fifth. Mosher (27-4) also took fifth in the shot put.

Buckingham posted career-best times in the 100 and 200. She was sixth in the 100 in 13.98 and finished fifth in the 200 in 28.96.

Humpal grabbed the final top-six individual finish as she was sixth in the 100 hurdles in 18.82.
