Tigerhawks set school record in sprint medley relay

EDDYVILLE — Xavier Woods and Chase Trotter won a pair of individual events and teamed up to win a relay, Sullivan Wilkins went under 5 minutes in the 1,600-meter run and the Colfax-Mingo boys track and field team finished second in the Class B Division of the Rocket Relays on Tuesday.

The Tigerhawks scored 162 points in second. They trailed only Lynnville-Sully, which won the meet championship with 221 points.

The rest of the six-team field included Montezuma (107), the Ottumwa JV (42), Moulton-Udell (18) and the EBF JV (8).

Trotter won the 200- and 400-meter dash, Woods scored victories in the 110 high hurdles and the high jump and Wilkins set a new career-best in winning the 1,600.

The Tigerhawks registered seven wins in all. They also won the 4x400 and sprint medley relays.

Trotter won the 200 in 24.1 seconds and he led a 1-3 finish in the 400 with a time of 55.82. Izaiah Lewis finished third in the 400 with a career-best time of 57.01.

The Tigerhawks also doubled up in the 800, 1,600, 3,200, 110 high hurdles, 400 hurdles and the shot put.

Wilkins won the 1,600 in a career-best time of 4 minutes, 56.09 seconds. That’s seventh-best all-time at Colfax-Mingo. Owen Ament (5:30.72) finished fourth.

Wilkins (10:51.62) and Ament (11:45.12) also were 3-4 in the 3,200.

Woods won the 110 high hurdles in 16.71 seconds, but Wyatt Thornton (18.26) and Kyle Wood (18.53) finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

Woods (1:00.96) and Lewis (1:06.95) went 3-5 in the 400 hurdles, Ament (2:22.68) and Alexander Rodriguez-Briseno (2:32.08) were 2-4 in the 800 and Lawrence Solasberry and Isaiah Baucom finished 4-5 in the shot put.

Solasberry placed fourth with a career-best throw of 35 feet, 10 inches and Baucom was fifth with a toss of 35-6.

Woods posted a leap of 5-10 to win the high jump, Trotter went 17-10 1/4 to finish fourth in the long jump and Camden Cunningham had a career-best throw of 102-4 to take fifth in the discus.

The winning sprint medley relay team set a new school record with a time of 1:41.39. The quartet who ran the season-best time featured Tony Buenrostro, Thornton, Woods and Trotter.

Fisher Grove, Thornton, Lewis and Wilkins won the 4x400 relay in 3:51.15 and Buenrostro, Cunningham, Thornton and Wilkins placed second in the distance medley relay in 4:04.21.

The 4x100 relay team of Baucom, Cunningham, Fisher Grove and Buenrostro placed second in 48.13 seconds and the 4x200 team of Baucom, Grove, Cunningham and Buenrostro finished second in 1:43.06.

The final top-three finish came from the shuttle relay team. The foursome of Lewis, Carwin Aldan, Willie Fitzgerald and Wood placed third in 1:22.62.

The Tigerhawks’ 4x800 relay team placed fourth but got third-place points. The team of Joey Grimm, Nate Endersbe, Fitzgerald and Ament finished the race in 10:12.45.

Tigerhawks finish sixth at West Marshall

STATE CENTER — Wilkins grabbed the lone win and led a 3-6 finish in another individual event but Colfax-Mingo placed sixth as a team against a tough field at the West Marshall Coed Invitational on Thursday.

The Tigerhawks scored 52 points in sixth. Ankeny Centennial won the meet championship with 182.5 points. The rest of the top five featured Lynnville-Sully (125.5), West Marshall (103.5), Baxter (91) and East Marshall (85.5).

Colfax-Mingo led the next group that included Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (41), Colo-NESCO (32.5) and Meskwaki Settlement School (14.5).

Fisher Grove

Wilkins won the 800 in 2:12.64, and he was third in the 1,600 in a time of 5:05.33. Ament gave the team double points as he was sixth in the mile with a time of 5:25.08.

Colfax-Mingo also finished third in the 4x200 relay with Buenrostro, Woods, Thornton and Trotter. They posted a time of 1:39.37.
