Second-ranked DCG too much for Newton girls soccer

Class 2A No. 2 Dallas Center-Grimes led 9-0 at halftime and cruised past the Newton girls soccer team, 10-0, at H.A. Lynn Stadium on Tuesday.

The Cardinals dropped to 0-4 in Little Hawkeye Conference play as the Mustangs ended the match in the 54th minute.

Newton took one shot in the loss. DCG (5-3-1, 4-0 in the LHC) is outscoring conference opponents 38-0 this season.

The loss snapped the Cardinals’ three-game win streak. Addy Cibula made 13 saves for Newton and now has 98 this spring, which ranks sixth in 2A.

DCG scored its seventh straight win over Newton (6-5-1) and posted its third straight shutout in the series.
