Newton girls win road triangular at PCM

Cardinals, Mustangs finish 1-2 at Gateway Recreation Golf Course

MONROE — A season-best score from Eva Pak led the Newton girls golf team to a win on Friday.

The Cardinals placed five golfers in the top six positions and Pak and Addie Ratcliff finished 1-2 at Gateway Recreation Golf Course.

Host PCM was the runner-up on its par 36 course, while Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont completed the triangular. The golfers played from the red tees.

Newton won the day with a 208. Gretchen Uitermarkt led the Mustangs to second with a 227 and EBF shot a 239 in third.

Pak won medalist honors with a season-best 48. She was one stroke off her career best.

Ratcliff finished second with a 50, while Evie Main and Addison Hook were fourth and fifth, respectively, with 55s.

Kalleigh Berndt was sixth overall with a non-counting score of 56 and Addison Van Maanen turned in a non-counting 64.

Uitermarkt broke up the Newton party at the top of the standings in third. She carded a 51 and Meredith Chipps tied her career best with a 57 in seventh.

Emilyn Davis finished ninth with a 58 and the final counting score came from Brelee Berger, who shot a 61.

Kayla Vander Linden produced a non-counting, career-best 63, while Seriah Nolin had a non-counting 79.
