For the third straight season, the Newton girls tennis team swept Des Moines East.

The Cardinals played super sets to 10 games against the Scarlets at Aurora Heights Park on Thursday, and Newton dominated most of the matches in an 11-0 non-conference victory.

Newton defeated East 11-0 in each of the past two seasons, too, and won 10-1 three years ago.

The Cardinals’ singles lineup was chalked full of seniors as Lauryn Garrett, Ella Swarts, Madison Rinehart, Olivia Hotchkin and Izzy Wilson all scored victories along with junior Paige Benson.

Wilson dominated her opponent, 10-0, at No. 5 singles and Benson held a narrow 3-2 lead before eventually winning 10-2 at No. 6 singles.
