Five Cardinals earn all-district bowling recognition

King headlines Newton bowlers with first-team honor

Senior Sebastian King led the Newton bowling teams in total pins, single-game average, two-game series and single-game score this season.

For his efforts, he was named to the Class 2A West District first team, which was selected by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association and Iowa High School Bowling Coaches Association.

Joining King on the all-district team were seniors Owen Guldberg, Andrew Wiles and Genessa Slings and sophomore Gabbie Humphrey. All four Cardinals were second team selections.

King produced a team-best 4,304 total pins for a Newton squad which made the state tournament for the second straight season. He averaged a team-best 204.95, turned in a team-best 488 series and rolled a team-best 268 single game.

Andrew Wiles

Guldberg was next for the Newton boys in total pins with 4,172. His season average was 198.67 and his top series was 446. Guldberg’s best single game was 245.

Wiles ranked third on the boys’ squad in total pins with 4,144. He turned in a top single game of 244, rolled a 466 series and averaged 197.33.

Genessa Slings

Slings led the girls’ team with a 174.53 average. Her season-best 413 series was second on the team and her 3,316 total pins ranked third. Her best single game of the season was 226.

Humphrey’s 3,568 total pins led the Cardinals. She also ranked second in average at 169.91, her season-best 236 single game ranked second and her season-best 407 series was third.
