Cardinals cruise past trio of of non-conference opponents

DES MOINES — A trio of Cardinals won three times by fall, nine grapplers went 3-0 in all and the Newton boys’ wrestling team had a dominating night on the mat on Tuesday.

The Cardinals won all three of their matchups with ease, cruising past host Des Moines North-Hoover 76-3, defeating Central Decatur 64-12 and downing Saydel 63-16.

Newton finished 24-7 in contested matches and was assisted by 11 forfeits in the quadrangular.

Against North-Hoover, the Cardinals were 7-1 in contested matches and they were given six forfeits.

Asher Rhoads (144), Keary Sanger (150), Lane Rozendaal (157), Chevy Langston (165), Nick Milburn (215) and Coleby Revell (285) all won by pin, Wyatt Weter posted an 18-6 major decision victory and Kent Montgomery (106), Abel Aldama (113), Kaiden Rogers (120), Seth Adams (126), Zander Robson (132) and Aiden Robson (138) all accepted forfeits.

In the win over Central Decatur, Milburn and Zach Sheffield (190) won by forfeit. Eight of the nine contested wins came by fall and Adams also won by major decision.

The pins came from Montgomery, Rogers, Aiden Robson, Rhoads, Sanger, Rozendaal, Weter (215) and Jake Mace-Maynard (175). Sanger, Rozendaal, Weter and Mace-Maynard all scored first-period falls.

The Cardinals were 9-3 in contested matches against Saydel and Montgomery, Adams and Hayden McCuddin (138) each took forfeits.

Keary Sanger

Rogers, Aiden Robson (144), Asher Rhoads (150), Sanger (157), Rozendaal (165), Weter (190) and Milburn won by fall, while Mace-Maynard scored a 4-2 victory by decision.

Montgomery, Rogers, Adams, Rhoads, Sanger, Rozendaal, Weter, Milburn and Aiden Robson all went 3-0 for the night.

Rhoads, Sanger and Rozendaal each posted three pins, while Rogers, Weter, Milburn and Aiden Robson all registered two pins and Adams and Montgomery won twice by forfeit. Mace-Maynard ended up 2-1.
