STATE CENTER — Kylee Adams and Stella Cupples dominated their weight brackets and three other Cardinals finished in the top five of theirs during the Trojan Tangle on Tuesday.
The Cardinals entered seven varsity wrestlers in the tournament and placed fifth in the 14-team field.
Host West Marshall won the meet with 199 points, while the remaining top five were Woodward-Granger (123), Waterloo West (98), Gilbert (90) and Newton (86).
Adams won the 100-pound weight class after a 4-0 night. She won her first three matches by fall and then scored a 12-2 win by major decision in the championship match.
Her three pins came in the first period and she spent 1 minute, 33 seconds on the mat in those matches.
Cupples claimed the 110 title. She was 3-0 with three pins. Her first win came in 40 seconds and then her championship-match win ended late in the second period.
The other top-five finishers were Kamiya Lepley, Ella Machin and Claire Breuer.
Lepley finished fourth at 155 with a 3-2 night. She won her first match by a first-period fall and then claimed 7-2 and 8-6 wins by decision.
Machin was 2-2 and finished fourth at 190. Both of her wins came by fall late in the third period.
Breuer placed fifth at 135 after a 2-2 tournament. She won both of her matches by fall and one of her losses was an 8-7 decision.
Savannah Carr went 1-2 with one pin at 140 and Grace Guy finished 0-2 at 170.
Shawn Foreman, Ashlyn VanManen and Lilly Fuchs all competed in the junior varsity tournament.
Foreman (155) and VanManen (190) both won their weight brackets, while Fuchs (190) was third.
