PELLA — State-ranked Tucker Wheeler improved to 10-0 on the season on Monday after a 3-0 night at a road quadrangular hosted by Pella.
Wheeler and Hewitt Brinegar both won twice by fall and five other Mustangs won two times each and the PCM wrestling team finished 1-2 at Pella High School.
The Mustangs dominated Sigourney/Keota 50-18 but lost 45-36 to Pleasantville and 54-21 to host Pella. PCM was hindered by forfeits in both losses.
In the win over Sigourney/Keota, Kaliber Fry (120), Wheeler (144), Brinegar (150), Sawyer Bouwkamp (157), Trystin Anderson (175) and Wyatt Wheeler (190) all won by fall. Kaden Clark (285) also won 19-3, Eli McGriff (215) scored a 5-0 win and Charlie Sitzmann (132) accepted the team’s only forfeit.
The Mustangs were 8-2 in contested matches, each team took one forfeit and there were two double forfeits.
PCM was 5-5 in contested matches against Pleasantville, but the Mustangs had a 3-1 disadvantage in forfeits. The Trojans won the final three bouts of the dual to score the team victory.
Brinegar, Wyatt Wheeler, Clark (6-3) and McGriff all won by fall in the dual, while Tucker Wheeler took a forfeit and Bouwkamp (5-3) won by injury time.
Against Pella, the Mustangs were 4-6 in contested matches and the Dutch had a 4-0 advantage in forfeits.
Remington Fry, Tucker Wheeler and Kaliber Fry (6-3) all won by fall, while Brinegar (8-2) scored a 6-5 win by decision.
Tucker Wheeler, who is now ranked sixth at 144 in Class 2A, improved to 10-0 on the season. Six of his nine pins have come in the first period.
The latest rankings by IAWrestle also feature Wyatt Wheeler, who is ranked 11th at 175. He improved to 7-3 on the season.
