Baxter wrestlers down Montezuma in season opener

Bolts lose close duals to Cardinal, Sigourney/Keota

MONTEZUMA — The Baxter boys’ wrestling team was hindered by simply not having enough wrestlers to compete on Thursday.

The Bolts finished with just one dual win in a quadrangular hosted by Montezuma, but they were 13-2 in contested matches and posted 11 wins by fall.

The Bolts downed Montezuma 42-18 but lost close matchups with both Cardinal (39-32) and Sigourney/Keota (42-36).

Callyn Bishop, who is ranked No. 12 at 175 pounds, led the way for Baxter with three first-period pins. Rugar Kincaid, Jack Anderson and Ayden Beck also were 3-0, while Koltin Hurd, Aiden McFadden and Alex Dille scored a pair of wins.

In the win over Montezuma, the Bolts were 4-0 in contested matches. There were two double forfeits and both teams accepted three forfeits.

Beck (126), Kincaid (138), Anderson (144) and Bishop (190) all won by pin, while Hurd (132), McFadden (285) and Dille (113) each accepted forfeits.

Beck, who is ranked No. 8 at 113, scored a 17-4 win at 132 against Cardinal. Kincaid won his match 19-8 and Bishop (175), Anderson and Dille all won by fall. Maddox Peters won by forfeit at 155.

McFadden, who is ranked No. 7 at 285, lost his bout 7-0 to No. 9 Isaac Cox.

The Bolts were 5-1 in contested matches against Cardinal but had a 6-1 disadvantage in forfeits. There were two double forfeits.

In the loss to Sigourney/Keota, Beck and Hurd both took forfeits, while Kincaid (144), Anderson (150), Bishop (175) and McFadden all won by fall. Three of the four pins came in the first period.

Baxter was 4-1 in contested matches against S/K, but it had a 6-2 disadvantage in forfeits. There was one double forfeit.
