OTTUMWA — The Lynnville-Sully wrestling team opened the season with a win over Pekin on Tuesday. The Hawks also lost to Davis County and host Ottumwa during a road quadrangular.
Five Hawks were 2-1 for the day and they went 3-0 in contested matches in the 42-12 win over Pekin. The losses were 57-24 to Davis County and 69-6 to Ottumwa.
In the win over Pekin, which was the first dual victory of new L-S head coach Cayden Johnson’s career, Kimball Elliott (126), Kendric Johnson (132) and Ben Squires (285) all won by fall, while Hunter Van Wyk (120), Skyler Stoll (144), Austin Larson (165) and Wyatt Mathis (190) each took a forfeit. The Hawks had a 4-2 advantage in forfeit victories.

Kendric Johnson, Stoll and Squires all had wins by fall in the loss to Davis County. Mathis also took a forfeit.
L-S was 3-3 in contested matches against the Mustangs and Davis County had a 7-1 advantage in forfeit wins.
Ottumwa was 6-1 in contested matches and took six forfeits in its win over the Hawks. Elliott got the lone win by fall.
Elliott, Johnson and Squires were 2-1 with two pins on the night. Mathis was 2-1 with two forfeits and Stoll also finished 2-1.
