Herd of Mustangs land on all-district football squad

Three PCM football players earn superlative awards

Wyatt Schutte

The PCM football team dominated its five Class 2A District 6 opponents this season.

The Mustangs scored at least 45 points and averaged 48.4 points per game on offense, while the defense allowed just 13.8 points per contest.

For their efforts, 20 PCM football players were named to the all-district team, three scored superlative honors and head coach Greg Bonnett was named the District co-coach of the Year.

Adrien Robbins

Junior Adrien Robbins led the district in rushing on his way to co-offensive MVP, junior Finn Wilson was the co-defensive MVP and senior Wyatt Schutte earned Lineman MVP after helping the Mustangs lead the district rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and total yards.

Robbins, Schutte and Wilson were joined on the all-district first team by senior offensive linemen Mark Bussan and Jacob Burns, junior quarterback Gavin Van Gorp, senior tailback Wyatt Wheeler, senior wide receivers Griffin Olson and Gabe Hobbs, sophomore kicker Dominic Witt, senior offensive utility player Jack Jungling, junior defensive linemen Trenner Van Dyke, Kaden Clark and Allias Nolin, junior linebacker Brevin DeRaad, senior defensive back Justin Johnston and senior defensive utility player Jacob Wendt.

Finn Wilson

The Mustangs’ second-team selections were senior defensive back Hewitt Brinegar, junior safety Riley Graber and sophomore linebacker Evan Jones.

All-district recognition is based on statistics inside district play only.

Robbins led the district with 1,302 rushing yards, 17 rushing TDs, 18 total touchdowns and a 10.3 yards per carry average. He also ranked ninth in the district with 131 receiving yards on five catches.

Mark Bussan

Schutte, Bussan and Burns were key cogs on an offensive line that helped PCM lead the district with 1,882 rushing yards, 26 rushing TDs, 2,506 total yards, 34 total touchdowns and an 8.0 yards per carry average.

Van Gorp ranked second in the district with 624 passing yards and was ninth with 235 rushing yards. His eight passing TDs led the district. He also ranked fourth with seven rushing TDs and second with 15 total TDs.

Hobbs tied for ninth in the district with 10 catches and added 110 receiving yards and one TD. Jungling hauled in five catches for 52 yards and one touchdown.

Gavin Van Gorp

Dominic Witt

Van Dyke tied for the district lead with 6.5 tackles for loss and added 16.5 tackles. Nolin had 18 tackles, two tackles for loss and one fumble recovery and Clark collected 12 tackles.
