Wilkins, Ament headline C-M harriers at WCV

Short-handed Tigerhawks finish top five in Redfield

REDFIELD — Top-20 finishes from Owen Ament and Shae Wilkins headline the Colfax-Mingo cross country teams at the West Central Cross Country Invitational on Thursday.

Both Tigerhawk teams were short-handed as the girls placed fifth in the six-team field and the boys were fourth in the four-team field at the West Central Valley Middle School.

Ament highlighted the Tigerhawks in the boys’ 5K race in 17th. His time was clocked in 21 minutes, 30.8 seconds.

The other four scoring runners were John McGill (22:50.1) in 29th, Austin Lane (23:08.2) in 32nd, Sullivan Wilkins (23:51.6) in 40th and Asher Knutson (31:51.6) in 58th.

Ankeny Christian Academy won the boys’ team title with 24 points. Van Meter (38), Woodward Academy (88) and Colfax-Mingo (100) completed the field.

Class 1A No. 20 Alex Davis of Ankeny Christian Academy and No. 22 Daniel Schoening of Ankeny Christian Academy finished 1-2 with identical times of 18:31.2.

Shae Wilkins placed 18th in the girls’ 5K race in 25:51.1. Rachael Uecker was the next Tigerhawk in 30th with a time of 28:08.5.

Devan Chadwick (28:53.3), Lilyan Hadsall (29:38.9) and Claire Hunsberger (30:12) were the final three scoring runners in 34th, 37th and 39th, respectively.

Evalyn Anderson (35:39.9) was 46th and Selena Lopez (45:02.3) placed 48th as non-scoring runners.

The Tigerhawk girls were without top runner Addie Schroeder, who played in C-M’s conference volleyball home match that night.

Class 2A No. 3 Van Meter won the team title with 24 points. The Bulldogs placed nine runners in the top 17 positions.

Woodward-Granger scored 58 points in second after four runners finished in the top 14 spots.

Mount Ayr (91), West Central Valley (98), Colfax-Mingo (121) and Ankeny Christian Academy (125) completed the six-team field.

Class 2A No. 8 Eva Fleshner of Woodward-Granger won the girls’ race in 20:25.9.

Class 2A No. 12 Emma McCoy of Van Meter was the runner-up in 20:45.6.
