NCMP places fifth at Tiger Tankers Invitational

Ray, Barton lead Aquagirls at West Des Moines Valley

WEST DES MOINES — Three of the top five girls’ swim teams in the state joined the Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella Aquagirls at the Tiger Tankers Invitational on Saturday.

NCMP’s best finish was fifth and the 21st-ranked Aquagirls were fifth as a team with 127 points. They were well in front of No. 22 Council Bluffs Lewis Central (78) and No. 23 Grinnell/BGM/Baxter (76) in the seven-team field.

According to the results on Bound, top-ranked Waukee won the meet with 357 points. Second-ranked Dowling Catholic (324), No. 5 West Des Moines Valley and No. 16 Sioux City West (165) completed the field.

The Aquagirls placed 5-6-7 in the 100-yard breaststroke with Harper Barton taking fifth with a season-best time of 1 minute, 10.38 seconds. Addison Van Maanen was sixth in a season-best time of 1:12.31 and Estella Allen placed seventh in a season-best 1:14.11.

The other individual fifth-place finish came from Peyton Ray in the 100 freestyle. She was clocked in 56.56 seconds, while Barton was sixth in a season-best 56.61.

Tori White claimed two top-10 finishes. She was seventh in the 100 backstroke in a season-best 1:02.94 and placed 10th in the 100 butterfly in a season-best 1:05.59.

Paige Benson scored a 10th-place finish in the 50 freestyle. Her time was a season-best 27.51.

All three Aquagirl relay teams were fifth. The 200 medley relay team of White, Barton, Izzy Lane and Benson finished in a season-best 1:57.31, the 200 freestyle relay team of Alex Riney, Van Maanen, Benson and Ray hit the wall in a season-best 1:45.65 and the 400 freestyle relay foursome of Ray, Riney, White and Barton came in at a season-best 3:53.03.
