Norrish leads short-handed Hawks at EBF

High school boys race was canceled due to weather

Olivia Norrish

EDDYVILLE — Olivia Norrish ran to a top-five finish, but the Lynnville-Sully girls’ cross country team didn’t have enough runners for a team score at the EBF Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday.

Three L-S girls were home sick and the high school boys’ race was canceled due to inclement weather.

Norrish finished fifth overall with a time of 22 minutes, 21.56 seconds.

Emma Parkinson

The other two runners for the Hawks were Emma Parkinson and Brooke Conover. Parkinson was 14th in 23:32.19 and Conover placed 34th in 26:01.96.

“Olivia, Emma and Brooke all had great races,” L-S head cross country coach Darin Arkema said. “A top-10, medalist finish for Olivia, who continues to push herself and compete right with some ranked 1A and 2A competitors.

“Emma was in the 13th/14th position after the first mile and crossed the line competing with the same girl for that 13th position but just didn’t have enough kick down the stretch to stay in front of her. Brooke was aggressive and strong early in the race which led to her having one of her better times and races of the season.”

Peyton Sharp, Ines Save and Helle Augustinussen were not available due to illness.

Brooke Conover

Albia’s McKenna Montgomery won the girls’ 5K race in 19:34.74 and Pekin’s Chloe Glosser was the runner-up in 20:23.63.

Montgomery is ranked fifth in Class 2A and Glosser is No. 8 in 1A.

Class 2A No. 3 Albia won the team title with 21 points and 1A No. 16 Pekin scored 48 in second. EBF (79), Montezuma (106) and Wayne (119) completed the five-team field.
