Montezuma rallies past L-S volleyball, wins in five

Hawks suffer first South Iowa Cedar League loss

SULLY — The Lynnville-Sully volleyball team played in its third consecutive five-set conference match on Monday.

But the latest matchup against Montezuma was different than the previous two.

The Hawks rallied from an early hole and 2-1 deficit to beat Colfax-Mingo last week and then lost a 2-0 lead only to win in the fifth game against HLV a few days later.

Against Montezuma on Monday, Lynnville-Sully came back from an 0-2 hole but fell in the final frame. The Bravettes escaped with a 25-23, 25-22, 16-25, 16-25, 15-7 road win and handed the Hawks their first South Iowa Cedar League loss.

Alexy Conover

Aubree Arthur led the Hawks with 13 kills and six digs, Alexy Conover tallied eight kills, 20 digs and two assists and Elise Alberts finished with 34 assists and eight digs.

Carsyn McFarland added 18 digs, Majesta Vos put down nine kills and Paige James registered eight kills and two digs. Alaina Roberts chipped in 12 digs.

Morgan Jones, Natalie Roberts and Tatum Huyser contributed six, five and two digs, respectively. Huyser also served two aces.

Lynnville-Sully (10-4 overall, 3-1 in the SICL) was 85-of-90 in serves with five aces. James served 20-of-20, Alaina Roberts was 14-of-14 and Alberts ended up 20-of-21.

Montezuma improved to 6-12 and 2-3 in the SICL.
