Thirteen area baseball players catch all-SICL recognition

Trio of L-S Hawks earn unanimous first-team honors

After claiming its second straight conference championship with an undefeated record, the Lynnville-Sully baseball team was well-represented on the all-conference team that was released recently.

Five Hawks earned first-team distinction, three others were second-team selections and two grabbed honorable mention recognition.

The five first-team selections were Lynnville-Sully seniors Conner Maston, Caleb Rea and Bryce Richards, junior Corder Noun Harder and sophomore Lannon Montgomery.

The Hawks’ second-team picks were juniors Lucas Sieck and Blake Van Wyk and sophomore Carson Maston.

The area’s honorable mention choices were Lynnville-Sully senior Reese Dunsbergen and junior C.J. Nikkel and Colfax-Mingo senior Nathan Sloan and junior Cael Bracewell.

Junior Joe Earles was given the Golden Award, which goes to any player who would have made all-conference if it weren’t for an injury.

All-conference recognition is based on statistics inside conference play only.

Conner Maston was a unanimous first-team selection as a pitcher. He was 3-0 and did not allow an earned run in 18 1/3 innings.

Maston led the SICL with an opponents’ batting average of .059, struck out 37 batters and allowed just four hits. He committed no errors.

At the plate, Conner Maston led the SICL with a .590 batting average, a .695 on-base percentage, 44 total bases and 26 RBIs.

He was tied for first with 13 walks, tied for second with 21 runs and seven doubles, second with four homers and tied for third with 15 steals.

He ranked tied for sixth with five hit by pitches and added one triple.

Noun Harder was a unanimous first-team selection as a catcher after ranking second in the SICL with a .490 batting average.

He led the league with 24 runs, three triples and 26 steals, ranked tied for second with seven doubles, second with 40 total bases, third with a .597 OBP and tied for ninth with nine walks.

Noun Harder added 11 RBIs, one homer and four hit by pitches and his fielding percentage was .973. He threw out two of the three runners who tried to steal a base against him.

Rea was voted a unanimous first-team outfielder after batting .326 and posting an OBP of .429. He tied for eighth in the league with 15 runs and 15 RBIs, tied for ninth with 12 steals and registered 14 total bases and eight walks and he was hit by two pitches. He committed only one error.

Montgomery was a first-team infielder after ranking eighth in the league with a .438 batting average. He also ranked seventh with an OBP of .533, tied for fifth with 17 runs and six doubles, tied for third with 19 RBIs and seventh with 29 total bases.

Montgomery tied for 10th in the SICL with nine walks and finished with one triple and two steals and he was hit by two pitches.

Richards was a first-team utility player after batting .366 and ranking tied for 10th with a .500 OBP. He also tied for second with 21 runs, tied for fourth with two homers, tied for sixth with five hit by pitches and tied for 10th with 26 total bases.

His 15 steals ranked tied for fifth in the league, his 23 RBIs were second and he added three doubles, one triple and seven walks.

He committed just one error and was 2-0 with an ERA of 1.91 as a pitcher.

Sieck was a second-team pitcher after going 4-0 and ranking third in the league with a .65 ERA. He struck out 35 batters in 21 2/3 innings and his .135 opponents’ batting average ranked sixth. Sieck’s four wins tied for second most in the SICL.

Carson Maston’s second-team selection came as an infielder. He batted .325, posted an OBP of .472 and tied for sixth in the league with 17 RBIs.

His nine walks tied for 10th and he added 11 runs, 15 total bases, two doubles and four steals and he was hit by three pitches.

Van Wyk was a second-team outfielder after hitting .278 and posting an OBP of .395. He ranked tied for eighth in the league with 15 runs and finished with 10 RBIs, one double, six walks, 11 total bases and seven steals and he was hit by one pitch.

Dunsbergen batted .282 but posted an OBP of .429. He tied for fourth in the league with two homers and tied for 10th with nine walks and 13 RBIs. He also finished with 13 runs, 18 total bases, six steals and one double.

Dunsbergen was hit by one pitch and his fielding percentage with two errors was .967.

Nikkel played mostly in the field for the Hawks, but he finished with six walks, six runs and two RBIs in his limited plate appearances. He did not commit an error in the field.

Bracewell made a strong case for second team all-conference as a pitcher for the Tigerhawks. He was 3-1 with an ERA of 2.71. His 65 strikeouts ranked fourth in the league and his 31 innings ranked 10th.

Opponents batted only .197 against him and his three wins tied for the eighth-most in the SICL.

Bracewell batted .282, ranked tied for 10th with a .500 OBP and tied for second with six hit by pitches. His 11 walks tied for seventh and he added nine runs, 16 total bases, five RBIs, three doubles, one triple and six steals.

Sloan batted .164 and had an OBP of .364. He ranked tied for third in the SICL with 12 walks and finished with nine runs, four RBIs, 11 steals, eight total bases and two doubles and he was hit by two pitches.

As a pitcher, Sloan struck out 11 in nine innings and opponents hit only .192 against him. He had one pitching win and one save.
