EARLHAM — A slow start and a plethora of errors plagued the Lynnville-Sully softball team on Wednesday.
The Hawks trailed 4-0 after the first inning and seven errors allowed Class 1A No. 11 Earlham to end the game early during a 12-2, five-inning loss in a 1A Region 5 quarterfinal matchup.
Lynnville-Sully scored single runs in the fourth and fifth, but it wasn’t near enough to avoid the mercy rule.
The Hawks had more errors than hits in the loss. Earlham out-hit L-S 9-5 and the Cardinals committed two errors.
