Sixth-ranked Hawks break out bats in pair of SICL wins

Lynnville-Sully baseball scores 31 runs in back-to-back games

SULLY — Bryce Richards homered, four Hawks had at least two hits and the Lynnville-Sully baseball team scored at least 14 runs for the fourth time this season during a 14-1, five-inning win over HLV on Wednesday night.

The Class 1A No. 6 Hawks scored eight runs in the first inning, coasted to their eighth victory and improved to 5-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League.

Lannon Montgomery had four hits, one double and five RBIs, Corder Noun Harder registered two triples, two runs and two RBIs and was hit by a pitch and Conner Maston collected two doubles and two RBIs.

Richards homered, had two RBIs and stole one base, Lucas Sieck finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs and Blake Van Wyk added one walk, two runs and one RBI.

Carson Maston drew two walks and scored one run, C.J. Nikkel walked once, scored one run and had one steal and Reese Dunsbergen walked once and scored one run. Karter Smead, Jack Bowlin, Jaiden Richards and Samuel Philby all were plated once.

Richards and Conner Maston split the five innings on the mound.  Richards got his first career varsity win after tossing 2 1/3 innings and surrendering one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter.

Conner Maston pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and allowed no runs and one hit and struck out six.

The Hawks (8-0 overall, 5-0 in the SICL) led 12-0 after two and scored two in the bottom of the fourth. HLV (1-4, 1-4) avoided the 12-run mercy rule with a single run in the fourth.

Conner Maston is batting .600 this season, while Noun Harder has 14 runs and ranks fourth in 1A with 15 steals. Bryce Richards and Montgomery each have 11 RBIs.

Lynnville-Sully 17, Montezuma 4, five innings

MONTEZUMA — The Hawks cranked out 18 hits and took advantage of seven Montezuma errors during a 17-4 road win on Tuesday.

Six L-S players collected at least two hits and nine Hawks scored at least one run in the SICL victory.

Conner Maston registered five hits, one double, four runs, two RBIs and three steals and he was hit by one pitch to lead the L-S offense.

Montgomery and Carson Maston both finished with three hits and Noun Harder, Bryce Richards and Sieck tallied two hits.

Montgomery scored one run, had two RBIs and walked once, Carson Maston added two runs, one RBI, one walk and one steal and Noun Harder chipped in three runs, one RBI, one walk and five steals.

Bryce Richards collected one run, one walk, four RBIs and two steals, Sieck registered two hits, two runs, three RBIs and one steal and Caleb Rea finished with one hit, one RBI, one walk and one stolen base.

Dunsbergen and Nikkel both walked once and scored one run, Dunsbergen added an RBI and Nikkel stole one base. Terran Gosselink scored two runs and stole two bases. The Hawks swiped 16 bags in the win.

Montgomery tossed 3 1/3 innings and allowed four runs — three earned — on five hits with three strikeouts, six walks and one hit batter.

Rea earned the pitching win after striking out all four batters he faced. Bryce Richards tossed one inning and struck out two and Philby fanned a pair in 1 1/3 innings.

Garrett Watts and Broox Stockman each had two hits to lead Montezuma. The Braves (1-2, 1-2) drew eight walks.
