L-S golf ends season at districts

Sieck, Van Dyke can’t extend season at Crestwood Hills Golf Course

ANITA — The Lynnville-Sully boys’ golf team’s season ended on Monday during the Class 1A district tournament.

Lucas Sieck led the Hawks with an 89, but it wasn’t enough to advance to the state tournament.

L-S brought two players to the par 71 Crestwood Hills Golf Course. Klayton Van Dyke carded a 108 and Sieck’s nine-hole splits were 45-44.

Seth Hensley of CAM was the meet medalist with a 72 and Hamburg’s Keith Thompson was the runner-up medalist with a 73.

South Hamilton won the district championship and advanced to state with a 318. Host CAM (325) and Montezuma (328) also moved on to state in second and third, respectively.

L-S golfers compete in Oskaloosa quadrangular

OSKALOOSA — Lynnville-Sully competed in a pair of Oskaloosa quadrangulars on May 4.

The boys, led by a trio of Hawks in sixth, seventh and eighth, were second in the standings and L-S girls had just one golfer in the field.

BGM shot 173 to win the boys’ matchup and L-S shot 181 in second. Belle Plaine had a 188 in third and Iowa Valley carded a 195 in fourth.

The Belle Plaine girls won with a 216 and Iowa Valley had a 247. BGM and Lynnville-Sully did not have enough golfers for a team score.

Sieck, Carson Maston and Van Dyke all shot 43 to lead the Hawk boys. Keegan DeWitt turned in a 52 as the final counting score.

Deven Liekweg (59) and Garrett Jansen (63) had non-counting scores.

Dominic Coleman of BGM was the meet medalist with a 40 and Belle Plaine’s Jeremy Reineke shot 41 as the runner-up medalist.

Belle Plaine had the top two scores in the girls’ competition. Jacy Reineke and Eva Brannaman shot 50 and 51, respectively, at the top.

Renzi Ingersoll was the lone L-S female on the course and she shot a 62.

L-S boys edge HLV in SICL golf matchup

LYNNVILLE — Five Hawks finished in the top seven positions and Lynnville-Sully edged HLV during a South Iowa Cedar League matchup at Diamond Trail Golf Course on April 24.

Sieck was the runner-up medalist, but DeWitt finished third, Van Dyke ended up fifth and Maston took sixth in the final standings.

The Hawks won the head-to-head matchup 172-177 despite HLV having the meet medalist. Peyton Roth won medalist honors with a 38 and Sieck shot a 41 in second.

DeWitt (42), Van Dyke (career-best 44), Maston (45) and Liekweg (career-best 45) had the other counting scores. Jansen shot a non-counting and career-best 50.

Keota 152, Lynnville-Sully 180

KEOTA — The Keota Eagles held down the top five spots and three shot under 40 during a head-to-head matchup with Lynnville-Sully on April 27.

The L-S girls didn’t play because Keota does not have a team.

The Hawk boys shot 180 at Lagos Acres Golf and Country Club, but Keota fired a 152 at the top.

Caden Sprouse (36) and Sawyer Stout (37) were the medalist and runner-up medalist, respectively.

Sieck and DeWitt each fired 43s to lead the Hawks, while the other two counting scores came from Van Dyke (46) and Maston (48).

Liekweg (50) and Jansen (56) turned in non-counting scores.

GIRLS

The Hawk girls faced HLV on April 24 and Tri-County on April 27, but neither matchup was decided by a team score.

Both HLV and L-S had two golfers each, while Tri-County sported just one golfer.

Against HLV, Ingersoll finished third with a 63 and Hopelynn Sanders was fourth with a 74. HLV’s Shaylee Cooling won meet medalist honors with a 50 and Kaylee York was second with a 58.

Ingersoll won medalist honors against Tri-County with a career-best 48. Sanders finished third with a 71. TC’s Natalie Smith was second with a 65.
