Newton girls golf finishes second at LHC triangular

Cardinals place fourth at Urbandale Invitational

PELLA — Career-best rounds from Addison Hook, Eva Pak and Addison Van Maanen helped the Newton girls’ golf team place second during a Little Hawkeye Conference triangular on Tuesday.

The Cardinals competed against Pella and Oskaloosa and shot a 208 to grab runner-up honors.

The Lady Dutch won the day on their home course and Oskaloosa was five shots back of Newton in third.

Pella grabbed the first four spots in the standings and shot a 186 at the par 36 Pella Country Club.

Pella’s Karsyn Lyons was the medalist with a 44 and Emerson Lee shot a 45 as the runner-up medalist.

Hook led the Cardinals in sixth with a career-best 51. Marin Pettigrew and Eva Pak both carded 52s in eighth and ninth place, respectively, and Ella Price’s 53 landed her in 10th as the final counting score.

Van Maanen carded a career-best 54 and Evie Main shot a 56 as the non-counting scores. Pak set a new career best with her 52.

Price leads Cardinals at Urbandale Invitational

URBANDALE — The Cardinals competed against three other schools at the Urbandale Invitational on Monday. They placed fourth in the standings with a 221.

Ames cruised to the team title with a 176 at the par 37 Urbandale Golf and Country Club. Des Moines East finished second with a 213 and the host Jayhawks were third with a 217.

Price led the Cardinals in sixth with a 51. Pak was next in 12th with a 55 and the other two counting scorers were Pettigrew and Van Maanen, who shot 57 and 58, respectively.

Main and Hook shot 60 and 62, respectively, as non-counting scorers.

Emerson Motl of Ames was the meet medalist with a 40. Des Moines East’s Saleah Vivanh-Vong also shot 40 as the runner-up medalist.
