Baxter boys track finishes second, C-M sixth in outdoor opener

Rainsbarger leads Bolts at Des Moines Christian

URBANDALE — Logan Rainsbarger was part of two wins and the Baxter boys’ track and field team finished at least third in six relays during the C-M Coed Invitational on Monday.

The Bolts scored 127 points in second during a meet hosted by Des Moines Christian because Colfax-Mingo’s new all-weather track is not finished.

The Lions won the meet with 218 points. The rest of the six-team field included Colo-NESCO (94), Grand View Christian (41), Ankeny Christian Academy (39) and Colfax-Mingo (33).

Rainsbarger won the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.81 seconds. He also anchored the shuttle hurdle relay to a win.

That group included Rainsbarger, Ashton Kerwin, Keenan Varner and Logan Jones and they won the race in 1 minute, 10.57 seconds.

Colfax-Mingo was led by Xavier Woods, who finished second in two individual events.

The Bolts also won the sprint medley relay. The team of Cade Robinson, Alex Dille, Jake Travis and Carson Scroggins posted a winning time of 1:42.3.

The 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relays all finished second.

In the 4x100, Robinson, Scroggins, Jake Travis and Cainan Travis grabbed the silver medal with a time of 48.14 seconds.

The 4x400 team of Robinson, Cainan Travis, Cody Damman and Scroggins finished second in 3:48.77.

Jones, Cody Samson, Perrin Sulzle and Damman teamed up to place second in the 4x800. They posted a time of 9:10.45.

The Bolts tallied seven second-place finishes. Trice Clapper was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 5 1/4 inches, Cainan Travis placed second in the long jump with a leap of 18-8 3/4 and Treyton Travis ended up second in the high jump with a mark of 5-8.

Scroggins also placed second in the 200 with a time of 24.31 seconds. Rainsbarger had a mark of 18-6 to finish third in the long jump, Jones (1:03.34) was third in the 400 hurdles, Damman (2:13.08) placed third in the 800 and Matt Richardson (10:45.26) took third in the 3,200.

The Bolts’ distance medley relay team of Treyton Travis, Dille, James Esqueda and Eli Dee also were third. They hit the finish line in 4:22.15.

Sulzle (2:16.39) finished fifth in the 800, Richardson (5:00.82) placed fifth in the 1,600 and Rainsbarger (1:05.26) ended up fifth in the 400 hurdles.

Woods led Colfax-Mingo with runner-up finishes in the 110 high hurdles and 400 hurdles. He posted a time of 17.71 in the 110 highs and finished the 400 lows in 1:03.03.

Woods also placed fifth in the 100 (12.66) and Davion Long (1:01.95) and Owen Ament (1:03.64) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400.

In the discus, C-M’s Ben Keeney (102-8) and Baxter’s Grant Anderegg (99-5) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Colfax-Mingo’s Wyatt Thornton (20.72) grabbed a fifth-place finish in the 110 highs.
