Newton girls open indoor season at Dickinson Relays

Terpstra leads Cardinals at Iowa State Indoor

CEDAR FALLS — Addy Terpstra made the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, a pair of Cardinal relays finished in the top 30 and the Newton girls’ track and field team opened the indoor season at the Dickinson Relays on Monday.

Terpstra qualified for the finals of the 60 hurdles with a preliminary time of 9.64 seconds but false started in the finals. Macy Lampe (10.99) and Chloe Rorabaugh (11.04) placed 71st and 76th, respectively.

The next best finish for the Cardinals came in the 4x800 relay. The team of Kate Muckler, Harper Barton, Bella Winther and Peyton Ray finished 25th with a time of 10 minutes, 57.05 seconds.

The 4x400 relay placed 27th with Winther, Briana Shannon, Barton and Muckler and they finished in 4:34.62.

In the 4x200 relay, the team of Lola Rivera, Gracie Clayton, Abby Bruce and Lauren Clarke placed 37th in 1:57.7.

Tierney Adams and Jayden Lukefahr competed in the shot put and placed 38th and 46th, respectively. Adams had a mark of 31 feet, 1 1/2 inches and Lukefahr’s best toss was 30-4 3/4.

The best individual finish on the track came from Shannon, who placed 31st in the 800 with a time of 2:38.61. Ray (2:49.2) and Alex Riney (2:52.94) finished 71st and 90th, respectively.

In the 200 dash, Bruce was 44th in 29.03 seconds, Shannon placed 75th in 29.55 and Clarke placed 82nd in 29.61.

Brooklyn Shannon led the Cardinals in the 400. She was 53rd in 1:06.65. Riney placed 72nd in 1:08.43 and Clayton took 80th in 1:09.09.

Terpstra leads Cardinals at Iowa State Indoor

AMES — Terpstra was part of two top-five finishes, the 4x800 relay team placed in the top 15 and Newton competed in the IATC Indoor Championships at Iowa State on Thursday.

Due to inclement weather, the meet was moved up in time and all classes were combined.

Terpstra finished fourth in the preliminaries of the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.51 seconds but moved up to third in the finals with a time of 9.32. Annie Main (11.58) also competed in the event and placed 56th.

The Cardinals’ shuttle hurdle relay team placed fifth overall with a time of 41.51. That foursome included Rorabaugh, Clayton, Lampe and Terpstra.

The next best individual finish came from Tori White. She was 12th in the high jump with a leap of 4-11 and Riney placed 24th with a jump of 4-7.

The 4x800 relay team also was 12th. That group featured Briana Shannon, Barton, Winther and Ray and they finished in 10:40.32.

Three other relays placed in the top 30. The sprint medley and 4x400 relays were 22nd and the 4x100 team placed 29th.

In the sprint medley, the team of Rorabaugh, Terpstra, Rivera and Brooklyn Shannon finished in 2:02.02.

The 4x400 relay team stopped the clock in 4:35.03 and that group included Muckler, Brooklyn Shannon, Winther and Riney.

The 4x100 relay was 29th with Clarke, Clayton, White and Mack Sims and they finished in 55.49.

In the shot put, Adams finished 22nd with a toss of 31-0 1/2 and Lukefahr placed 41st with a heave of 28-4 3/4.

Barton and Jaelynn Shannon finished 29th and 39th, respectively in the 800. Barton was clocked in 2:40.07 and Jaelynn Shannon finished in 2:50.08.

Briana Shannon (5:44.66) was 36th in the 1,500, Main (13-8 1/2) placed 42nd in the long jump and Riney (1:10.77) was 43rd in the 400. In the 60 dash, Rivera (8.85) and Clarke (8.86) finished 58th and 59th, respectively.
