Class 4A No. 5 Indianola edges Newton boys in LHC showdown

Plowman’s double-double not enough for Cardinals in loss to Indians

The Newton boys basketball team held Class 4A No. 5 Indianola to its second fewest point total of the season on Friday.

But a 35 percent shooting night plagued the Cardinals during a 52-47 loss in Little Hawkeye Conference play.

The Indians stayed unbeaten in conference play despite falling behind by six after one quarter. They outscored the Cardinals 43-32 over the course of the final three frames.

Newton improved upon its first meeting with the Indians, who defeated the Cardinals 74-54 at home earlier this season.

Cole Plowman led the Cardinals with 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three blocks and Jake Ingle added 10 points, six assists and two rebounds.

Brody Bauer chipped in seven points and five boards, Nate Lampe had three points and three steals and Carson Satterfield registered three points and two rebounds. Drew Thompson dished out three assists and Tade Vanderlaan grabbed two boards.

Newton (7-4 overall, 5-3 in the LHC) connected on 5-of-19 from 3-point range and made 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. The Cardinals committed 14 turnovers and recorded 14 assists on 18 field goals.

Brayden Drea led the Indians (13-1, 8-0) with 26 points and Casey Glascock put in 13 points.

Indianola did not have the services of Drew Kingery, who averages 13 points, six rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

The Indians shot 50 percent from the floor, made 6-of-13 from 3 and connected on 6-of-12 from the foul line while committing 12 turnovers.
