Eight Tigerhawks score all-district football recognition

Horras, Bracewell lead Colfax-Mingo with first-team selections

Colfax-Mingo’s football team ended its season on a positive note. The Tigerhawks won their final two games and ended the district season with a double-digit win over Wayne.

Two players made strong enough cases to be placed on the Class A District 6 first team, four others earned second-team recognition and two Tigerhawks were honorable mention. All eight players have eligibility remaining.

The first-team selections were juniors Curtis Horras and Cael Bracewell and the second-team choices included juniors Shane Hostetter, Conner Wood, Brock Nichol and Trey Hockemeier.

Colfax-Mingo’s honorable mention picks were Joe Earles and Donovan Baucom and Sam Dawson earned a Golden Award, which goes to players who were good enough to be all-district but were hampered by an injury.

All-district recognition is based on statistics inside district play only.

Horras was a first-team selection at wide receiver. He ranked first in the district with 542 receiving yards and a 19.4 yards per catch average, tied for first with seven receiving touchdowns and was second with 28 catches.

Horras also had 680 all-purpose yards, which ranked fourth in the district.

Bracewell was a first-team pick at offensive utility. He started the season at receiver and ended it at quarterback. His 739 passing yards were second in the district and his seven passing TDs ranked third.

His eight total TDs tied for eighth and his 112 QB rating ranked third. He also had a rushing touchdown and hauled in nine passes for 106 yards.

Hostetter was a second-team tight end/fullback. He ranked fifth in the district with 15 catches for 105 yards and added a rushing TD.

Wood was a second-team receiver after finishing with 19 catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns, which ranked fourth, ninth and tied for eighth, respectively.

Nichol was a second-team linebacker and Hockemeier earned second-team honors as a defensive back.

Nichol ranked tied for sixth with 34.5 tackles and tied for fifth with two sacks. He also had 3.5 tackles for loss.

Hockemeier tallied 8.5 tackles and snagged one interception.

Earles finished with 23.5 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery. His two sacks ranked tied for fifth in the district.

Baucom also tied for fifth in the district with two sacks and registered 16 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
