Two Bolts earn all-conference honors at Iowa Star Conference meet

Richardson places third, Gliem takes fifth at Wartburg College

WAVERLY — Matt Richardson led Baxter’s cross country teams and Zoey Gliem also ran to all-conference honors at the Iowa Star Conference meet on Thursday.

The Bolts competed at the 5K course at Wartburg College and the boys finished fifth in the six-team field. There were not enough Baxter girls for a team score.

Richardson placed third in the boys’ race with a time of 17 minutes, 39 seconds. The top two finishers were Class 1A No. 19 Adric Schmitz of Valley Lutheran and 1A No. 21 Ethan Haus of Collins-Maxwell.

Schmitz won the race in 16:59 and Haus was the runner-up in 17:10.

Richardson’s time was one of the fastest in Bolts’ history. Logan Jones (19:26) finished 19th, Logan Rainsbarger (19:28) was 20th, Maddox Peters (21:53) placed 47th and Austin England (24:21) was the final scoring runner in 58th. Hudson Bethards (26:41) was a non-scoring runner in 69th.

Valley Lutheran won the boys’ team title with 48 points. Collins-Maxwell (54), BCLUW (70), Dunkerton (98), Baxter (112) and Waterloo Christian (127) completed the field.

Collins-Maxwell won the girls’ team title with 37 points. North Tama (46), Clarksville (67) and BCLUW (68) completed the four-team field.

Gliem placed fifth in the girls’ race with a time of 21:55. Emie Tuhn (23:13) was 15th and Regan Russell (24:42) placed 26th.

BCLUW’s Abby Kemp won the girls’ race in 20:32 and North Tama’s Grace Lidgett was the runner-up in 20:46.

The top 10 finishers in each race earned all-conference status.
