Four Mustangs run to medals at Chariton XC Invitational

Teeter, DeRaad headline PCM harriers

CHARITON — Three PCM freshmen and a sophomore earned medals at the Chariton Cross Country Invitational on Thursday.

Led by Abi Teeter, PCM’s girls’ cross country team scored a third-place finish. Coby DeRaad was the top male Mustang and he led the squad to a fifth-place mark.

Teeter was fifth in the girls’ 5K race and she hit the finish line in 21 minutes, 29.82 seconds.

DeRaad came in 11th in the boys’ race with a time of 18:38.64.

Class 2A No. 5 Albia won the girls’ meet title with 16 points. The first four finishers were Blue Demons. Davis County scored 64 points in second and the rest of the six-team field featured PCM (88), Cardinal (106), Wayne (113) and Pleasantville (141).

Southeast Warren, Twin Cedars, Chariton and East Union had incomplete teams.

Class 2A No. 19 Makenna Montgomery of Albia won the girls’ race in 19:51.24. Class 2A No. 10 Serene Thompson of Albia was the runner-up in 20:38.66.

After Teeter for the PCM girls were Makayla True in 14th and Reagan Vannoy in 15th. True finished the race in 22:26.04 and Vannoy was clocked in 22:46.76.

The other two scoring runners for PCM were Riley DeVore (25:33.01) in 32nd and Alyce Engle (26:12.07) in 38th. Jillian Fairbanks (26:44.62) and Alexis Fagg (27:05.46) were the non-scoring runners in 42nd and 45th, respectively.

Host Chariton won the boys’ meet title with 27 points. The Chargers were 3-4-5-6 in the final standings.

Albia was the runner-up with 44 points, while Davis County (66), Wayne (122), PCM (135) and Pleasantville (137) completed the six-team field.

The incomplete teams were Southeast Warren, East Union, Cardinal, Moravia and Moulton-Udell.

Southeast Warren’s Ronan Jimenez won the boys’ race in 17:19.09. Albia’s Ethan Stalzer was the runner-up in 17:39.64.

After DeRaad for the PCM boys was Charlie Ford in 41st with a time of 21:23.34. The other scoring runners were Carson Taylor (21:37.8) in 47th, Wyatt Vannoy (22:08.65) in 52nd and Leighton McClure (22:09.18) in 54th.

The non-scoring runners were Carter Dudley (24:31.28) in 73rd and Jacob Buys (26:48.91) in 81st.
