Fenton leads four Mustangs on all-HOIC baseball team

Van Dyke, Webb and Farver join Fenton on all-conference squad

PCM junior Gavin Fenton finished in the top 10 of eight statistical categories this summer. It was that production that landed him on the Heart of Iowa all-conference first team.

The all-conference teams were released recently and all-conference honors are based on statistics inside conference play only.

The Mustangs put four total players on the all-conference team. Fenton was a first-team catcher, while senior Durant Van Dyke earned second team honors as an infielder.

Sophomores Nick Farver and Easton Webb both were honorable mention selections.

PCM and Saydel tied for third place in the league with an 8-6 record. And they split their two regular season meetings.

Fenton ranked seventh in the HOIC with a .370 batting average. He also was sixth with a .491 on-base percentage, ranked eighth with a .522 slugging percentage and tallied a league-best two triples.

Fenton also was tied for fourth with 17 hits and four hit by pitches, tied for fifth with 24 total bases and tied for ninth with seven walks. He added six RBIs, eight runs and three doubles and his fielding percentage was .966.

Van Dyke batted .326 for the Mustangs. He had an OBP of .400 and his 20 total bases tied for 10th in the HOIC.

He tied for seventh with four doubles and finished with one triple, eight RBIs, eight runs, 14 hits, four walks and two hit by pitches. His slugging percentage was .465 and his fielding percentage of .981 ranked ninth in the conference.

Farver led the conference with 20 runs, tied for fourth with 17 hits and ranked tied for third with 10 walks. His .362 batting average ranked ninth and he had a .466 OBP and .404 slugging percentage.

Farver finished with two doubles, seven RBIs, 19 total bases and seven steals and his fielding percentage was .727.

Webb’s 20 RBIs ranked second in the HOIC and he tied for 10th with 20 total bases. He also finished with six runs, 14 hits, three doubles, one homer, five walks and one hit by pitch.

Webb’s batting average was .311, he had an OBP of .370 and his slugging percentage was .444. His fielding percentage was .925.
