Damman leads Bolts on all-conference baseball team

Five Baxter players earn recognition in Iowa Star Conference South Division

Baxter junior Cody Damman was the top hitter in the Iowa Star Conference South Division this past season.

He also led the conference in on-base percentage and tied for the lead in slugging percentage while also finishing in the top 10 of five other statistical categories.

Damman was the Bolts’ lone first team all-conference selection for his efforts, while seniors Rory Heer and Nate McMinamen and junior Cael Shepley were second-team picks and eighth-grader Cael Wishman earned honorable mention recognition.

All-conference honors are based on statistics inside conference play only.

Damman was the first-team catcher after leading the league with a .545 batting average and a .667 OBP. His .727 slugging percentage also tied for the conference lead.

Damman ranked second in the league with 11 walks, seventh with 24 total bases and tied for sixth with nine steals. He also tied for seventh with 18 hits and tied for 10th with four doubles and finished with 11 runs, one triple, six RBIs and zero errors on defense.

McMinamen and Shepley both were second-team infielders.

McMinamen batted .316, had an OBP of .381 and tallied a .421 slugging percentage. He scored three runs and collected 12 hits, two doubles, one triple, four RBIs, three walks and 16 total bases. His fielding percentage was .966.

Shepley batted .366, had an OBP of .395 and registered a .463 slugging percentage.

He tied for 10th in the league with four doubles, ranked tied for sixth with 12 RBIs and finished with four runs, 15 hits, two walks, 19 total bases and four steals. Shepley had an .879 fielding percentage.

Heer’s second-team selection came as an outfielder. He batted .356, reached base 40.8 percent of the time and collected a slugging percentage of .400.

His 16 steals ranked second in the league and he finished with 11 runs, 16 hits, two doubles, three walks, 18 total bases and his fielding percentage was .870.

Wishman ranked sixth in the league with a batting average of .436 and his .564 slugging percentage ranked eighth. He also had an OBP of .463.

Wishman ranked 10th in the league with 17 hits, tied for fourth with five doubles and was ninth with 22 total bases. He scored four runs, had four RBIs, walked twice and his fielding percentage was .902.
