Maki leads Newton boys track at Iowa City West

Small contingent of Cardinals compete in Eastern Iowa Track & Field Festival

IOWA CITY — Nate Maki led a small contingent of Newton boys track and field athletes at the Eastern Iowa Track & Field Festival on Saturday.

A handful of Cardinals competed in a meet that was hosted by Iowa City West and did not keep team scores.

Maki won the 200-meter dash and was the runner-up in the 100. He finished the 200 in 23.03 seconds and sprinted to an 11.18 in the 100. The winning time in the 100 was 11.17.

The next best finisher for Newton was Treycen Garton. He was third in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 1.45 seconds.

A pair of Cardinals ran in the 400. Derek Beiner was sixth in 52.59 and Cody Klein hit the finish line in 53.32.
