C-M’s Lester, PCM’s Anderson lead area tracksters at R-S

Small number of area track athletes compete at Roland-Story

STORY CITY — A small group of area track and field athletes competed at Roland-Story High School on Saturday.

An added meet to the schedule allowed track athletes to take advantage of nice weather and Colfax-Mingo’s Kyra Lester and PCM’s Aidan Anderson led the area contingent.

Lester was the only area female who made the trip. She finished second in the discus with a throw of 115 feet, 2 inches and also placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 32-8.

Those were the only points Colfax-Mingo scored in the team race as the Tigerhawks were eighth in the eight-team field.

PCM brought a handful of male athletes to the meet.

Anderson scored a pair of runner-up finishes to lead the Mustangs. He was second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.39 seconds and placed second in the 400 in 54.13.

The other top individual finishes came from Gavin Fenton and Griffin Olson, who were 3-4, respectively, in the 400 hurdles. Fenton placed third in 59.51 and Olson’s fourth-place finish was clocked in 1 minute, 2.66 seconds.

Fenton and Olson teamed up with Trey Broderson and Jake Winters to place second in the shuttle hurdle relay. The foursome finished the race in 1:10.69.

The boys’ field included 13 teams and the Mustangs tied South Hardin for sixth with 34 points. Roland-Story and North Polk both scored 113 points to lead the way. South Hamilton was eighth with 32 points.
