Newton bowlers split with Norwalk, girls win easily

Second-best score of season nets Cardinals girls win over Warriors

Newton’s girls bowling team rolled its second best team score of the season on Tuesday during a home dual with Norwalk.

The Cardinals recorded six of the top eight individual scores, Bailey Hansen had a career-best series and Newton downed the Warriors 2,393-2,005.

The Newton boys lost to Norwalk 2,762-2,417 at Cardinal Lanes.

Hansen had the top series among all varsity girls players. She opened with a season-best 199 and then rolled a 173 for a career-best 372 series.

Genessa Slings’ 337 series was second in the girls competition. She rolled single games of 161 and 176. Beka Weithers was fourth overall with a 300 series and single games of 154 and 146.

Kaitlyn Gifford rolled a 151 and a 141 and was fifth with a 292 series. Navaeh Bown finished seventh with a 284 series and had single games of 126 and 158.

Libbie Keith had single games of 111 and 170 and her 281 series was eighth overall.

Norwalk’s Freedom Robbins finished third with a 333 series. Her best single game was a 192.

Newton improved to 7-1 in duals this season and Norwalk fell to 4-5.

In the boys’ competition, Norwalk (7-2) registered the top three series. Logan Bown led Newton (3-5) with a 346 series after rolling single games of 164 and 182.

Dallas King and Sebastian King were next for Newton. Dallas King tied for fifth with a 343 series. He had single games of 162 and 181. Sebastian King’s single games of 155 and 180 put him seventh with a 335 series.

Evan Benac recorded a career-best 328 series. He had single games of 153 and a career-best 175. Austin Kennedy opened with a career-best 176 and finished with a 135 for a 311 series.

Owen Guldberg rolled a 293 series with single games of 139 and 154.

Guldberg did not bowl in the Baker games because of injury and David Holmes missed the meet because of injury.

Owen Muhs and Tamion Adams led the Newton JV1 team but had scores that would have placed them high in the varsity competition. Both were moved up for the Baker games.

Muhs turned in an all-time best series of 417 after single games of 216 and 201, which would have both been career highs coming into the meet. Muhs’ previous top varsity series this season was a 218 and 159 was his top individual game.

Adams rolled a 341 series with single games of 179 and 162. Ethan Valtman led the Newton JV2 bowlers with a 301 series. His best single game was 154.

Dalton Stoffel led Norwalk with a 441 series. He had single-game scores of 226 and 215.
