Lincoln spoils NCMP Senior Night

Clay Lamb won twice and the Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella boys swim team claimed five wins total but Des Moines Lincoln spoiled the Cardinals’ Senior Night at the Newton YMCA on Tuesday.

The Railsplitters won six events and downed NCMP 91-69.

The Cardinals recognized their one senior, Tyler Sterling, during the meet. Sterling’s night included fourth-place finishes in the 50-meter freestyle and 100 backstroke.

NCMP was down Mack Copeland due to an illness. The Cardinals have had all 10 swimmers just once this season.

Lamb’s wins came in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Lamb won the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 22.62 seconds. His winning time in the 100 fly was clocked in 1:10.16.

Brady Comer was victorious in the 100 breaststroke, Eli Eekhoff won the 100 freestyle and the Cardinals’ won the 200 freestyle relay.

Comer won the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.09 and Eekhoff’s winning time in the 100 freestyle was clocked in 1:00.5.

Eekhoff also led a 2-3-4 finish in the 50 freestyle. Eekhoff was second in 26.89 seconds, Kenny Skinner-Havens finished third in 32.73 and Sterling was fourth in 33.15.

The winning 200 freestyle relay team included Comer, Jonah Brown, Eekhoff and Lamb and they finished in 2:00.1.

The Cardinals also were second in the 200 medley relay. That foursome of Drew Fuller, Comer, Brown and Sterling hit the wall in 2:17.24.

NCMP’s top 400 freestyle relay team placed second. That group featured Eekhoff, Lamb, Brown and Comer but the official time was unavailable at press time.

Fuller was second in the 400 freestyle in 5:27.88. He was out-touched at the wall by Lincoln’s Jack De Meyer, who won the race in 5:27.63.

Fuller and Sterling gave NCMP a 2-4 finish in the 100 backstroke. Fuller was the runner-up in 1:21.64 and Sterling finished fourth in 1:25.64.

Brown competed in the 200 individual medley and placed third in 2:51.07.
