McGill, Aikin lead Tigerhawks at home dual tournament

Colfax-Mingo grapplers can’t find win column at home

COLFAX — John McGill and Shane Aikin went undefeated and Danica Linn won four times but Colfax-Mingo’s wrestling team couldn’t find the win column during its home dual tournament on Saturday.

The Tigerhawks were a bit short-handed. They were edged 42-36 by Columbus/WMU/Lone Tree, lost 48-28 to Des Moines North/Hoover and fell 54-27 to Hudson. In the other two duals, Colfax-Mingo lost 54-21 to Treynor and 54-17 to Burlington-Notre Dame.

Aikin and McGill both were 5-0. Aikin registered four pins and a forfeit and is now 16-1 on the season. McGill collected one pin, one technical fall, one major decision and one forfeit and is now 13-2.

Against Columbus/WMU/Lone Tree, Aikin (220) won by fall in the first period and Linn (126), Kylie Doty (132), Xavier Woods (138), McGill (145) and Katie Schlosser (182) all took forfeits.

The Tigerhawks were 1-4 in contested matches and gave up four forfeits in the narrow loss.

In the loss to North/Hoover, Linn (120), Schlosser (170) and Aikin (220) all won by fall and Doty (132) took a forfeit. It was the first contested varsity win for Schlosser and Linn is now 9-2 on the season.

Colfax-Mingo was 4-5 in contested matches against North/Hoover and gave up four forfeits.

Linn (120), Woods (138), McGill (145) and Aikin all won by fall against Hudson and Lily Webster (106) won her match 8-3. The Tigerhawks were 5-2 in contested matches but gave up seven forfeits.

Against Treynor, Aikin (220) won by fall, Linn (120) and Woods (138) took forfeits and McGill (145) won 8-4. The Tigerhawks were 2-4 in contested matches and gave up six forfeits.

Mariah Webster (126) earned a win by pin against Burlington-Notre Dame, McGill won by technical fall and Aikin took a forfeit. C-M was 2-5 in contested matches and surrendered four forfeits.

Linn was 4-1 on the day, while Woods finished 3-1, Doty took a pair of forfeits and Schlosser also had two wins.

The Tigerhawks did not have the services of Gaven Slycord (285) or Kenny Schlosser (285) for the tournament.
