VandeLune, Van Dyke power PCM boys past Saydel

Strong first quarter highlights Mustangs’ HOIC win over Eagles

MONROE — Carson VandeLune registered a double-double, Durant Van Dyke put in 18 points and filled up the stat sheet and PCM’s boys basketball team made more than half of its shots from the floor during a 58-38 home win over Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action on Tuesday.

The Mustangs (2-3, 1-1) snapped a three-game skid after jumping out to a 16-8 lead after one. They led 26-13 at halftime.

VandeLune finished with 15 points, 11 assists, four rebounds and five steals and Van Dyke added 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks.

Matt Rosonke put in eight points and grabbed eight rebounds and Jacob Wendt added six points, three assists and two boards. Cade Lindsday (4) and Gavin Van Gorp (3) also scored more than two points, Lindsay grabbed three rebounds and Grant Van Veen pulled down two boards.

The Mustangs shot 51 percent from the floor, hit 7-of-21 from 3-point range and connected on 3-of-6 from the foul line. They committed 15 turnovers.

Mason Hicks led Saydel (0-3, 0-2) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Eagles shot 24.5 percent from the floor and committed 19 turnovers.
