Eight Tigerhawks earn all-district football recognition

A pair of Colfax-Mingo football players ended their high school careers in a big way this past season.

And one particular underclassmen looks to be primed for a special finish to his.

Seniors Cole Bracewell and Shane Aikin capped their prep careers with a first-team all-district nod. Joining that Tigerhawk duo on the Class A District 6 first team was sophomore Curtis Horras, who earned the honor both as a wide receiver and a kicker.

Senior wide receivers Justin Myers and Colton Lind and sophomore defensive back Trey Hockemeier were second-team selections, while senior Grant Alexander and sophomore Merritt McConeghey were the honorable mention picks.

All-district honors are based on statistics inside district play only.

Bracewell led Class A District 6 with 1,336 passing yards and 13 touchdown passes. He was 109-of-165 through the air and tossed five interceptions.

Bracewell also was 10th in the district with 292 rushing yards and eighth with five rushing TDs.

Aikin had his best season in a Tigerhawk uniform as a member of the offensive line. The C-M offense threw for a district-best 1,340 yards and scored 19 offensive TDs, which ranked fifth.

Horras showed what the district has to defend in the next two years. He was third in the district with 24 catches, second with 540 receiving yards and first with six receiving TDs. His 22.5 yards per catch average also led the district.

As a unanimous first-team kicker, Horras made a 22-yard field goal and was 14-of-15 in extra points.

Myers and Lind also were productive as receivers.

Myers ranked seventh in the district with 17 catches but was fourth with 219 receiving yards. He also ranked second with four TD catches and had a 13.7 yards per catch average.

Lind ranked fourth with 23 catches and tallied 157 receiving yards.

Hockemeier had 22 1/2 tackles in district play.

Alexander also was part of C-M’s offensive line. He had 12 tackles, two sacks and five tackles for loss as a defensive lineman.

McConeghey finished with 25 1/2 tackles and two fumble recoveries as one of C-M’s starting linebackers.
