Baxter harriers compete in loaded field at D-NH

Elie Tuhn finishes ninth at Fox Ridge Golf Course

DIKE — Class 1A No. 8 Elie Tuhn grabbed a top-10 finish but the rest of the Bolts faced an incredibly tough field at the Dike-New Hartford Invitational at Fox Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday.

The girls’ race featured five ranked teams and nine individually ranked runners and and the boys’ race had three ranked teams and a pair of ranked runners.

Tuhn was ninth in the girls’ race with a season-best time of 19 minutes, 28.3 seconds. Class 2A No. 2 Ellie Rathe of Union Community won the race in 18:31.2 and 2A No. 4 Katelyn Johnston of Osage was the runner-up in 18:42.5.

There were 19 teams in all and six incomplete teams. Class 2A No. 2 Denver won the girls’ team title with 51 points.

The rest of the top five included 1A No. 5 Hudson (140), 1A No. 9 North Linn (174), 2A No. 20 Dike-New Hartford (202) and 2A No. 19 Union Community (205). Baxter scored 331 points in ninth.

Emie Tuhn finished 61st in 22:55.7 and Zoey Gliem was 62nd in 22:55.9. Regan Russell (24:06.3) was 97th and Lilie Vansice (26:48.9) was 127th.

In the boys’ race, Matt Richardson led Baxter in 61st with a time of 18:48. The rest of the scoring Bolts included Keenan Varner (21:25.5) in 129th, Logan Jones (21:39.6) in 130th, Logan Rainsbarger (22:15.3) in 135th and Curtis Gliem (23:21.8) in 142nd.

Hudson Bethards (23:33.7) was 143rd and Thomas Yoakum (26:11.5) took 146th as non-scoring runners.

The Bolts were 20th in the 20-team field with 555 points. There were six incomplete teams.

Class 2A No. 6 Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck won the meet with 78 points. Charles City (88), 1A No. 4 Valley Lutheran (126), Grinnell (126) and 2A No. 17 Denver (148) completed the top five.

Class 1A No. 5 Isaac Natvig of Valley Lutheran won the race in 16:26.5 and 2A No. 13 Nicholas Thompson of West Marshall was the runner-up in 16:55.2.
