Four area athletes claim all-district softball honors

Colfax-Mingo junior Kylie Doty had a batting average better than .500 for the second straight season.

This summer, she ranked in the top 11 in Class 2A in three different offensive categories and also was the Tigerhawks’ top pitcher.

Doty’s .520 batting average led an area quartet who were all named to the all-district team in their class recently.

Doty was named to the 2A Southeast District squad, while Lynnville-Sully seniors Denali Conover and Caitlin Alberts were both 1A Central District honorees. PCM sophomore Riley Johannes earned recognition in the 3A Central District.

Doty’s .520 batting average ranked 11th in 2A this past summer. She also was tied for ninth in 2A with 14 doubles and five triples. Doty had an on-base percentage of .560 and finished with 36 runs, three homers, 35 RBIs, seven walks and five stolen bases. She was hit by two pitches and struck out just once this season.

The Tigerhawk junior also was 17-9 in the circle with an earned run average of 3.28. She struck out 106, walked 42 and hit four in 179 innings. Her fielding percentage was .960.

Conover was one of the best pitchers in 1A. She was 23-7 with an ERA of 2.00. Opponents hit just .199 off her and she struck out 112, walked 64 and hit 22 in 175 innings. Her fielding percentage was .934.

At the plate, Conover batted .432 with an OBP of .436 for Lynnville-Sully. She cranked out eight doubles, hit two homers and walked three times. She finished with 32 RBIs.

Alberts batted .337 but had an OBP of .455 for the Hawks. She scored 34 runs, tallied 27 RBIs, laced six doubles and two triples, drew 14 walks and was hit by seven pitches.

Alberts also was 22-of-22 in stolen bases and had a fielding percentage of .930.

Johannes hit .440 and had an OBP of .515 for PCM. Her school-record 15 doubles and four triples ranked tied for ninth in 3A. The Mustang sophomore also tallied 27 runs, 35 RBIs, one homer, seven walks and seven hit by pitches.

Johannes also stole six bases and had a fielding percentage of .920.
