L-S softball stays atop SICL after win over HLV

SULLY — Denali Conover struck out seven in the circle and Reagan McFarland, Laci Keen and Megan Van Zante all had two hits at the plate during the Lynnville-Sully softball team’s 5-2 home win over HLV on Wednesday.

The Class 1A No. 5 Hawks won the South Iowa Cedar League game after scoring three runs in the fifth inning.

L-S remains atop the SICL standings at 11-1. The Hawks are now 17-5 overall.

Conover earned the win in the circle after allowing two earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts, three walks and one hit batter.

McFarland led the offense with two hits, one run and one RBI. Van Zante tallied two hits and two runs and Keen finished with two hits.

Caitlin Alberts had one hit, one run and two RBIs, Conover collected one hit, Korinne Jansen walked once and scored one run and Cayler Noun Harder walked once.

HLV (6-10 overall, 4-8 in the conference) scored both of its runs in the seventh.

BASEBALL

HLV 12, Lynnville-Sully 2, 5 innings

The Hawks were limited to three hits during a 12-2, five-inning loss to HLV on Wednesday.

Corder Noun Harder had two of the three hits and added one RBI, one walk and one steal.

Conner Maston collected one hit, one run and one stolen base. He also tossed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief on the mound, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out three.

Braden Alberts had one walk and was hit by a pitch, Aiden LeCompte scored one run and stole one base and Owen Norrish, Caleb Rea and Mason Jansen all walked once.

Ryan Annee started on the mound and took the loss after allowing six earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and three walks in 1 1/3 innings.

Rea surrendered six earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts in two innings.

The loss dropped L-S (12-9) to second in the SICL at 9-3. HLV improved to 7-6 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
